As an optical fiber technician the applicant will be expected to spend much of their time working with Vytran splicing equipment. This would include execution of splices, re-coat, and testing for both standard Single Mode (SM) fiber and Polarization Maintaining (PM) fiber. The applicant will also be expected to develop splice programs on the Vytran for both SM and PM fiber, tailored to meeting program specific performance needs. As part of most programs, the applicant will be responsible for careful stowing of optical components and fibers. The applicant will be required to perform measurements to ensure optical circuit performance, both as built and under final packaged conditions. The applicant should have a good understanding of optical test equipment such as; optical power meters, polarization meters, and optical spectrum analyzers, all of which will be used to characterize optical components and built up optical circuits.
Either two years of applicable technical education and two years of applicable experinece or four years of applicable experience meets the minimum requirement.
