HPC Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic HPC & cloud engineer to be part of Zifo’s global high-performance computing and advance computing team. Within this role, the engineer will provide HPC and cloud related application and infrastructure services to scientists in multiple pharma and Biotech clients located in the USA.

The role is highly visible and client facing and will responsible for delivering quality IT solutions within R&D domain. The HPC engineer will be play a crucial role in developing scalable high-performance computing infrastructure in both On-premises datacenters & cloud. The engineer will build scientific applications and further ensure the usability and availability of the systems while directly working with the scientists.

Desired Skills / Knowledge:

  • Master’s degree in Computer science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational sciences, Computational chemistry, Biostatistics, Biology and Chemistry.
  • Advanced Linux skills and ability to work on various Linux distributions.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Linux system administration and high-performance computing experience is must to have.
  • Prior experience in building and configuring servers in the data center (Racking, stacking) is needed.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of storage and network aspects in Linux environments is needed.
  • Strong experience in various filesystems utilized in HPC environments such as Lustre, GPFS, AWS FSX, NFS and CIFS.
  • Solid experience in building GPU servers and cluster, especially NVIDIA GPU cards.
  • Expert knowledge in at least one of the cluster management tools (SLURM, UGE, etc), preferably SLURM is required.
  • Prior experience in setting up monitoring tools for Linux servers and HPC clusters is required.
  • Practical experience with at least one of the scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) and ability to automate routine tasks in required.
  • Previous working experience in DevOps environment and ability to work in DevOps culture concepts is highly desirable.
  • Experience in using AWS cloud components, especially, creating VPCs, EC2 instances, EBS volumes, S3, Glacier, load balancing, auto scaling and HPC clusters is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management software such as puppet, Chef; Ansible in Linux environments is preferred.
  • Working experience with Terraform, Packer, Docker and/or containers services is nice to have
  • Nice to have previous working experience in building and supporting COTS applications within pharma HPC cluster environment.

  • Linux administration, Data Center Ops, Cloud (AWS or Azure), High Performance Computing, GPU, NVIDIA, Containers, configuration management tools, DevOps, scientific application support.
