Sleep Technician / Respiratory Care Therapist

Dent Neurologic Institute is currently seeking a knowledgeable, hard-working and tech-savvy Polysomnographic Technologists and/or Respiratory Care Therapist.

This position is for the overnight shift and will be supporting the Sleep Centers in our Amherst and Orchard Park locations. We are open to candidates looking for Full-Time, and/or Part-Time.


* Gather and Analyze Patient Information

* Review history, physical information, medications, procedure request and study protocol.

* Complete and verify documentation.

* Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the Dent Sleep Disorders Center.

* Tests Preparation Procedures

* Prepares and calibrates the equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.

* Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.

* Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments, if necessary.

* Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.

* Polysomnographic Procedures

* Follows procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MLST), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnias studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data.

* Follows "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.

* Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.

* Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

* Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention that may include continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.

* Follows "lights on procedures to verify the integrity of collected data and completes the data collection process; i.e. repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.

* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

* Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic inventions.

* Polysomnographic Record Scoring

* Assists with scoring sleep/awake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.

* Assists with scoring clinical events such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc. with center-specific protocols.

* Assists with the generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/awake and clinical event data.


* Must be New York State licensed RPSGT or RRT Certification required

* Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one (1) year duration OR an accredited education program leading to an Associates Degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.
