Research Analyst

London Stock Exchange Group Buffalo, NY

Reporting to a Manager within the Research & Analytics department, the analyst will quickly develop the skills to work with key stakeholders (including clients) and programmers to develop derived fundamental data content (e.g., price earnings ratio) to a brief. The right candidate will become involved in specifying and testing derived data content requirements, using SQL ideally, and will work with programmers to implement same on the production database.

Derived factor/characteristics data is created for thousands of securities and indices within a SQL server database, hence knowledge of SQL would be advantageous.

A good understanding of accounting principles; knowledge of fundamental, forecast and pricing data; and identifiers is key to the role. Alternatively, the successful candidate will demonstrate very good analytical or programming skills. They will quickly develop a full understanding of the detail of how factor/characteristics are derived from their raw data components. The candidate will develop and action systematic checks to identify and resolve quality issues efficiently, as well as specifying and testing new derived data requirements for index builds and other projects.

Working in a team, the individual will have responsibility for systematic ongoing monitoring and improvement of every aspect of the fundamental data process at database level. Our focus is on quality accuracy and data integrity. Attention to detail and good time management skills are therefore key to the role.

The position offers a clear development path and presents many exciting opportunities in a challenging and dynamic environment. The role provides an excellent opportunity for the candidate to consolidate and further develop their financial, analytical, data and database knowledge, and project management skills, working with colleagues across functional teams to complete projects and deliver content on time and to the highest possible standard by:

* Ensuring high-quality, complete derived data content is created and provided for use in index builds and other products

* Monitoring the quality of the raw data components and derived data

* Assisting in putting quality control checks in place and continually monitoring same

* Assisting in combining data from FTSE Russell sources and third-party vendors

* Assisting in the production of regular reports and in new product development

Required Skills and Experience

It is expected that, with limited supervision, the candidate will be able to deliver each of the key objectives of the role identified above and they will have:

* A business qualification and/or a very good accounting/accounts analysis background. Alternatively, an IT qualification or a very good analytical background may fit.

* Demonstrable experience of working with fundamental data gained from working at a data vendor or in a research/analytical environment.

* Experience of using some of the following third-party vendor platforms -e.g., Thomson Reuters Worldscope, I/B/E/S, Datastream, FactSet fundamentals/estimates and/or similar in-house or proprietary databases.

Type of Person

* Eye for detail

* Self-motivated, with the ability to work within a team or alone, as necessary

* Flexible on working hours
