* License/Certification/Education: Requires a Bachelor's Degree w/2-5 years of experience in Histology and meet all licenses necessary for Histology or Associates Degree with 5+ years' experience.

* Applicants that are eligible for HT/HTL Registry (ASCP) must take and pass the exam no later than the first year of employment.

* Microtomy experience required.

* Must be CLIA '88 gross eligible.

Preferred qualifications

* HT/ HTL registered with the ASCP.

* 3-5 years of histology experience with routine histology procedures such as embedding, microtomy, and IHC.

* 2-5 years specimen grossing experience.

* Administrative experience: filing experience, maintain logs/records, use of computerized databases, verbal and written communications.

LabCorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join their team near Nashville in Brentwood Tennessee. Perform gross on human tissue, operate/maintain tissue processors, embed tissues, perform routine and special microtomy procedures, perform specimen pick up and log in procedures, specimen discard, equipment preventative and routine maintenance, perform special stains both manual and automated, lab documents such as PM logs, special stain logs & spreadsheets, prepare reagents, discard reagents and other duties as required by the department.

Principal functional responsibilities

* Performs gross following established procedures.

* Performs tissue embedding following established procedures.

* Performs routine cutting of paraffin blocks on a rotary microtome.

* Prepares reagents following established procedures.

* Receives specimens, maintains documentation of workload volume, quality control data and all appropriate records as required by the department, company and various regulatory agencies.

* Matches slides and reports to ensure correct information is reported.

* Stains, coverslips and labels slides (automated and manual). Performs special staining procedures offered in the histology laboratory (automated and manual).

* Researches, troubleshoots and resolves inquiries or problems within the laboratory and with LabCorp clients.

* Performs reagent QC on routinely used reagents. Runs parallel checks on reagents used on instruments for routine lab work. Troubleshoots reagent failures.

* Performs specimen QC to ensure specimen is appropriate and properly identified for each bench. Note and resolve all specimens not in compliance.

* Develops stain troubleshooting skills and develops assay trouble shooting skills. Records and determine causes for assay failure. Develops plans with the supervisor/manager to rectify problems.

* Assists with other non-technical duties within the laboratory as requested by the supervisor/manager to meet immediate needs of laboratory.

* Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment in designated area. This includes cleaning equipment, minor troubleshooting and reporting any irregularities in operation to supervisor/manager.

* Maintains appropriate records as required by laboratory, company and various regulatory agencies.

* Gains knowledge of department operations and procedures.

* Adheres to the laboratory's safety policies.

* Wears proper PPE when handling and processing specimens and hazardous waste.

* Discards biohazard waste properly.

* Discards hazardous waste properly.

* Notifies supervisor immediately of any lab accident or exposure incident.

* Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notifies team leader or supervisor of shortage. Helps with inventory procedures.

* Participates in required Continue education activities.

* Adheres to lab policies and protocols.

* Shows a high level of respect for all lab personnel, supervisors and directors.

* Attends all required meetings and represents laboratory in a professional manner.
