  • The budgeted range starts at $90,000 - $113,000 + annual bonus + equity. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

Job Summary:

The Director of Mountain Operations manages and provides leadership of the day to day operations of: Snowmaking, Grooming, Competition Services, Terrain Parks and Summer Trails to ensure a consistent and safe product for our employees and guests. This is achieved through financial management, teamwork, employee development, quality control, tracking project execution, and strong leadership. This position assists in the development, communication and implementation of resort goals & initiatives while developing and maintaining strong working relationships both internally & externally.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for Mountain Operations goals while contributing to overall resort and corporate goals and initiatives.
  • Creating and managing departmental budgets and capital projects while tracking performance to expectations.
  • Responsible for ongoing Mountain development planning, capital planning, as well as expense planning and implementation.
  • Development of leaders within the Mountain Operations organization to improve leadership within current roles and to prepare for increased responsibility/succession.
  • Actively manage the interface of Snowmaking and Grooming with each other, and other segments of Resort operations.
  • Work with ancillary lines of business (Epic Discovery, F&B, Ski School, etc.) to successfully execute all logistical aspects of staff transport and product hauling.
  • Prioritize and track project and task execution to maximize departmental efficiency and execution.
  • Ensure maximized snowmaking production during critical periods.
  • Drive innovation, efficiency and execution of Grooming, partnering closely with Fleet Maintenance on the operation of the fleet.
  • Oversight of summer sawyers, trail crew, brush cutting programs, and mountain-related summer construction projects including any large capital projects with cross-departmental ownership
  • Directly manage the establishment of goals, development plans and the evaluation of performance for direct reports.
  • Drive the Mountain Operations culture and the overall Resort culture to create optimum engagement of employees--providing the experience of a lifetime for our staff and ensuring that they provide it for our guests.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders outside the sphere of direct reports Ski Patrol, Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance).
  • Prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and environmental setting.
  • Increase operational efficiency and effectiveness through ongoing intra and inter-departmental communication and cooperation.
  • Actively participate in enterprise-wide best practice groups relevant to operating departments with a focus on driving companywide results.
  • Lead efforts in core departments to improve employee and guest safety and eliminate employee work comp incidents.
  • Manage compliance with OSHA, USFS, SWMP and all regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


  • Minimum of 10 years of Mountain Operations experience
  • Valid CO Driver’s License
  • MS Office skills
  • Fluent in all aspects of English
  • Ability to complete ROI analysis, forecasting and capital projects
  • Expert skier and/or snowboarder


  • College Degree
  • Experience using PeopleSoft
  • Prior management experience within Snowmaking, Grooming or Summer Mountain Operations
  • Leadership across a large department of approx. 50+ employees
  • Prior experience leading, coaching and developing Managers and Supervisors
