About AMIkids Acadiana

Founded in 2008, AMIkids Acadiana is a private nonprofit, staff-secure residential facility in Branch, Louisiana. Our program operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serving kids who have committed a variety of non-violent offenses and are involved with Louisiana's Office of Juvenile Justice. Our kids are living in dormitories on campus in a remote location, which is ideally structured to help them work through their issues and gain the needed skills to return to their families and communities.

We are seeking a Certified Science Teacher

Position Summary

The role of the Certified Teacher is to serve in the instruction and guidance of students within the appropriate grade or academic level. Responsible for adhering to recognized curriculum standards, and compliance with instructional guidelines as defined by the local School District and educational systems.

Primary objective is the realization of AMIkids' mission to provide a safe and successful learning environment for troubled youth, while encouraging social and emotional development through the achievement of academic and personal goals.

Essential Job Duties

* Assess and evaluate academic needs of students; provide professional instruction and teaching to a diverse population of students as appropriate to the specified course or discipline and academic level, e.g., general education students, at risk, and/or disabled students,

* Deliver instructional material within established academic guidelines and in support of the AMIkids Personal Growth Model; perform all duties in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures,

* Adhere to established standards regarding curriculum delivery and requirements as established by the School District and applicable educational systems appropriate to the specified course or discipline; adhere to all contract and state educational guidelines and quality assurance requirements,

* Effective use of the Behavior Modification System by providing redirection and coaching to students who exhibit inappropriate behavior,

* Establishe effective Interpersonal skills to encourage positive cooperation in the work place, and increase team success through meaningful interactions in operations and services,

* Participate in staff meetings and interactive training in open communication and for the dissemination of information, e.g., problem resolution, policy interpretation, procedural changes,

* Ensure all appropriate measures are in effect for special needs students,

* Identify and determines appropriate course of action necessary for the resolution of students' academic or behavioral issues and concerns,

* Coordinate all student activities with the Lead Teacher, Director of Education, Program Manager, Director of Operations and/or Executive Director,

* Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,

* Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with the national standards,

* Attend required training/professional development events and maintain appropriate certification(s) and license(s).

Minimum Education, Training and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Education, the academic discipline being delivered, or related field; supplemented by a demonstrated aptitude for working with at risk and troubled youth; or any combination of education, training and experience equal to or greater than defined regulatory requirements,

* Must possess and maintain current Teaching Certification, and all necessary academic certifications,

* Obtain and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state requirements,

* Obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification by nationally recognized organization,

* Must possess and maintain valid driver's license in the state of employment and have a driving record that meets the standards of the AMIkids Transportation Policy (CDL may be required based on role).
