Department Overview

At WGBH Digital we craft award-winning digital experiences that accompany popular broadcast programs, web or digital first programming and brands and various education and learning initiatives. We design everything from websites to HTML5 games, apps, video players and comprehensive digital curriculum and more!

Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Digital, the Sr. Director of Digital Product Development oversees all of WGBH's digital product development including national productions, children's productions, WGBH News, WCRB and all WGBH-branded digital expressions. The role serves as the chief liaison with digital and executive stakeholders in the production units.

Duties include:

* Collaborate with the VP and executive stakeholders in defining and informing digital strategies and initiatives.

* Develop and execute product roadmaps for WGBH's national productions, including Antiques Roadshow, Masterpiece, NOVA and American Experience.

* Develop and execute product roadmaps for Children's productions.

* Work collaboratively with digital stakeholders to design individual product and digital audience strategies

* Working with the Director of Technology, assign resources and assemble teams to conduct the work for all WGBH Digital stakeholders, ranging from major productions to in-house teams and external clients.

* Set budgets, maintain relationships, write statements of work and contracts for external and internal clients, ensuring that proposed scope of work aligns with available budgets. Encourage and develop external client relationships.

* Oversee the digital design team, including the Senior Design Manager.

* Oversee the digital product and project management team.

* Champion the WGBH Foundation's digital roadmap, ensuring that digital goals align and reinforce Foundation strategy. Align resources with the business needs of WGBH itself.

* Support all local digital efforts, including those of the local news operation.

* Identify opportunities and needs to hire talent within the department; help identify and hire talented developers, designers and product and project managers.

* Ensure that WGBH Digital's work is performed on time, within scope and on budget; identify strategies to keep work aligned and on budget as projects unfold.

* Lead cross-departmental efforts, defining both the features and tasks needed to implement digital products across the organization.

* Advocate for WGBH's needs with external partners such as PBS, NPR and other distribution channels.

Skills Required

Requirements/Qualifications:

* 10-15 years of experience delivering results in a senior product management role, preferably with a media company.

* Advanced abilities to problem solve and think strategically about the organization's digital needs and challenges.

* Extensive experience leading digital teams of designers, developers and product and project managers, including hiring and retaining talent.

* An understanding of project budgeting and resources management.

* A deft diplomatic touch with a variety of stakeholders at varying levels, including Executive Producers and high-level executives.

* Excellent cross-functional project management skills.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Proven success in delivering digital products and services in a high growth environment.

* Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive actions.

* Strengths in problem solving, issue-resolution, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

* Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners.

* An appreciation for and an understanding of the public media landscape.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.
