  • Overview

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world renowned clinicians, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. Combining extremely talented people with the best technologies in a genuinely positive environment, we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all ages; we conduct research that advances treatment; we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers; we reach out to underserved members of our community; and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

    Cancer Immunology/Chemical Immunology Postdoctoral Fellow

The Rashidian lab is focused in understanding the underlying mechanisms of how the tumor microenvironment is shaped and is changed in response to cancer immunotherapies. Furthermore, the lab aims to develop new and improved diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tools to detect, diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer. The lab is currently seeking to hire a highly motivated individual nearing completion of his/her PhD, or interested in having a second postdoc, and available to start in summer/fall of 2019. Prospective candidates with the following skill sets are encouraged to apply: immunology, nanomedicine, radiochemistry, polymer chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and molecular biology. The postdoc will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with a diverse group of scientists including immunologists, biochemists, chemists and physicians. The compensation will be competitive while also affording opportunities to be co-author on several basic science and translational manuscripts.

    Additional Information:

The lab’s research interests lie in understanding how the immune system responds to cancer and cancer treatment, the possibility to reshape the tumor microenvironment to a more anti-tumor status, and to develop the requisite tools to make this possible. In the long term, our goal is to help better understand why some patients respond to therapy and why some don’t, to help understand what results in an immunosuppressive or an anti-tumor tumor microenvironment, and to develop more effective therapies and new prognostic modalities for early assessment of the response to treatment. In this effort, the lab bridges knowledge of chemistry and cancer immunology, a unique combination.

The lab uses techniques, such as noninvasive immuno-PET imaging, two-photon microscopy, flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing, synthetic biology, protein engineering, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and peptide synthesis to tackle the issues.

Trainees will have access to state of the art instrumentation throughout the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Cancer Center and Harvard Medical School, as well as resources available through collaborations at the Boston area including MIT and the Whitehead Institute.

Applicants are expected to perform experiments, operate scientific equipment, teach/train other research staff, design experiments, publish manuscripts, and present findings at research conferences.

Excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues is expected. The initial appointment is for one year. Renewal is expected if progress is satisfactory. Applicants should submit their CV, and contact information for 3-5 referees as a single file. Applications will be considered immediately.
