General Summary/Overview

The Center for Clinical Data Science (CCDS) aims to transform healthcare through cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. We combine a translational, product-focused, early-stage culture with the world-class researchers, physicians, and data/computing resources at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women's Hospitals, as well as the broader Partners HealthCare System. Given our direct access to vast stores of biomedical data, decades of clinical experience, and deep expertise in the latest advances in cognitive computing, the CCDS is perfectly positioned to lead AI enabled advancements in medicine.

We are looking for a forward thinking, passionate, and high energy Clinical Innovation Fellow to identify and characterize clinical needs that can be solved through the application of machine learning. This position aims to facilitate a core requirement of the center – to interface with clinicians and hospital personnel to identify opportunities and proceed with the implementation of solutions. With unparalleled access to clinical data and expert clinicians, as well as a world-class information technology (IT) team, the CCDS provides an ideal environment for focusing on using analytics to effect tangible advancements in medicine.

The CCDS Clinical Innovation Fellow will work with other fellows and the broader CCDS team to engage in the development of projects that are key to the objectives of the center: identifying, developing, and translating solutions to MGH, BWH, the Partners organization and beyond.

Fellows will be selected based on their experience, passion, and abilities, as well as their potential to become leading innovators in the health tech field. This position is a full-time, paid and benefited 15-month position, with the potential to be extended for an additional 9 months.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

* Support data pipeline and processing efforts necessary for model training (e.g., data curation, annotation, and augmentation).

* Interface with physicians to help identify high value opportunities in medical imaging, pathology, and electronic health record data for the use of machine learning.

* Understand and ensure compliance with policies and procedures required for clinical validation within the Partners HealthCare system

* Prepare and report on the status of clinical investigations internally and externally

* Analyze data acquired during the course of the clinical investigation, prepare reports and presentations based on clinical findings

* Must be in a PhD/MD program.

* Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical workflows, including medical imaging diagnostics, pathology, and clinical laboratory medicine

* Technical abilities, including knowledge in a scripting language such as Python and an object-oriented programming language such as C .

* Familiarity with common tools for data management and analysis including machine learning (i.e. Tensorflow, Pytorch), distributed computing (i.e. Hadoop, Spark), database software (SQL or variants), and general scientific computing capabilities is preferred. Experience with Neural Networks a must.

* Comfort with basic statistics and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and database software are preferred
