Title: Instructional Assistant – Special Education RSP or SDC

Department: School Site

Reports To: Principal

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Site Principal, assist the Resource Specialist and/or Speech Pathologist in related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

* Assist students in their understanding of new concepts;

* Repeat and reinforce instruction to assist students individually and in small groups within the Resource, Speech or other Non-Special Day Class programs;

* Score and record tests and papers as directed;

* Set-up and operated audio-visual equipment and other teaching aids;

* Assist in the supervision of students on-campus and during off-campus field trips;

* Collect student data and file;

* Complete light computer work;

* Assemble lesson materials as direct; answers telephones and provides routine information;

* Maintain a functional and student friendly environment;

* Attend site and district staff meetings as directed;

* Support students identified as having special needs, within the general education;

* Attend professional growth workshops;

* Follow health and safety practices and procedures;

* May be required to drive to various locations

ABILITY TO:

Variety of Office Machines

Basic math including fractions, percentages and ratios

ABILITY TO:

Type 40 words per minute

Learn County School Information System (SIS)

Maintain clerical records

Learn and interpret rules, regulations, and instructions

Compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately

Perform clerical work with speed and accuracy

SUMMARY-Under general supervision, assist teacher(s) in the instruction of students to accomplish objectives of the instructional program of a school district. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES--Assist classroom teachers in the establishment of seating charts, rules and guideline standards and record keeping systems-Become familiar with appropriate texts and classroom instructional materials.-Conduct individual and/or small group instructional activities when directed to do so by the teacher.-Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and make copies of materials needed by the teacher.-Disseminate and collect student assignment worksheets and materials as directed.-Supervise students in class and at school activities during the student attendance day along with the teacher or in the teacher's absence for brief periods of time, but not on a regular basis.-Assist in clerical duties such as roll taking, grade assignments or recording, reports on student achievement, attendance, and/or behavior.-Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices or procedures.-Support and assist in the enforcement of classroom, school, and district rules.-Assist in supervision of play and lunch activities, bus loading and unloading when needed.-Assist in implementing individual educational plan goals.-Respects the confidentiality of special needs students learning and health disabilities. -Effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.-Perform other related duties as assigned.
