About the Position: In this position, you will serve as a Power Plant Electrician performing shop, plant, and outside work at a large multi-purpose power project. Using engineering data and schematic diagrams, you will install, modify, repair, and perform diagnostic evaluation troubleshooting as well as periodic and unscheduled maintenance and calibration on the electrical and solid state analog electronic equipment common to hydroelectric power producing stations.

Responsibilities

* Installs, modifies, repairs, performs diagnostic evaluation, troubleshoost, and perform periodic and unscheduled maintenance on the full range of electrical and solid state analog electronic equipment.

* Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment and systems ancillary to the project such as power distribution systems and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

* Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment and systems to include lighting, security systems, dam safety instrumentation systems, and communications and telephone systems.

* Makes adjustments and tests in accordance with industry standards and procedures on protective relays, communication equipment, voltage regulators, automatic generation control, and voltage control systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Electrician without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to perform the full range of Power Plant Electrician journey level duties. I have experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining power distribution circuits, communication systems, industrial power distribution systems, commercial/ industrial air conditioning and multi-zone heating and cooling systems (HVAC) that may include include hydronic chillers, split systems, and package units. My experience as a journey level electrician was acquired in a commercial industrial plant. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: The incumbent handles heavy parts and equipment and works in cramped quarters in tiring positions. Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting, carrying, pushing,pulling and twisting objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over,45 pounds. A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble and to plan and carry out corrective action; to interpret complex drawings; and to coordinate a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods. Ability to distinguish colors is essential.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the project powerhouse,other structures, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, extremes of heat or cold, dirt, oils, greases, dust, energized equipment, moving machinery,odors and fumes. Works around and over water, in damp drafty areas, and at various heights. May work with a variety of toxic or caustic materials.Required to work in concrete structures. There is a possibility of cuts, burns,falls, and electrical shock. Must wear all appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
