The Idaho Transportation Department is looking to fill key engineering positions in our District Design Construction Groups. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to employ their Engineering education, knowledge and skills to promote the mission of Idaho Transportation Department (ITD). The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the design and construction of highway project,. from inception to final completion.

Our Design Construction Groups provide the incumbent engineer a unique opportunity to be instrumental in the development, delivery, and construction of highway projects. This challenging and diverse engineering environment will provide the incumbent with opportunities for growth and professional development. Given the broad range of roles and responsibilities, successful candidates will be provided numerous training opportunities throughout their career.

This announcement will be used to fill openings in the District 3, Boise office in our Design Construction Groups. The Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL Horizontal Career Path) is a 7 year horizontal career path position; through on-the-job training, classroom training, achievement of team goals and agency goals, there will be opportunity to progress through a four step program. After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below:

* EIT – starting wage: $24.50

* Associate Engineer - starting wage: $28.00

* Staff Engineer - starting wage: $32.00

* Technical Engineer 1 - starting wage:$35.50

* Technical Engineer 1 - completion wage:$39.00

Technical Engineering Services Lead engineers are considered fully competent professional engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved. Candidates will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered. Some positions involve extensive travel and frequent overnight stays; being on call and responding to emergencies at any hour. The physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is required. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is a positive attribute.


* Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work, as part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope.

* Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.

* Requires a broad knowledge of precedents of the engineering discipline.

* May supervise professional staff and/or a large number of technical staff.

Desired Qualifications:

Job candidates licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE) or eligible for comity licensure with transportation engineering experience are desired, but applications will be accepted from candidates with EIT Certifications and a BSCE degree.

* Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12

* Working knowledge in Bentley MicroStation and Microsoft Project Professional is desired


* Candidates must have one of the following: Certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer-In-Training; OR Certification as an EIT from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET); OR graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS verification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination.

* Valid driver's license.


* Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12

* Valid Driver's license

* Analyzing, interpreting, and applying federal, state, and local laws when applying engineering principles and practices;

* Writing technical engineering reports;

* Evaluating, selecting, and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications, and standards in completing projects;

* Coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards.

Specialty Area:

* Project Management;

* Developing Highway Construction Plans and Contracts;

* Writing Highway Construction Specification.
