Job Description:

The Construction Equipment Operator performs assignments while operating a variety of heavy equipment / construction equipment such as bulldozers, hole diggers, excavators, backhoes, loaders, linebeds, trucks, transports, cranes, conductor stringing equipment (tensioners, pullers, etc) and self-loading pole trucks within the vicinity of energized lines and working personnel. While on a work location, reports to the Foreman of that particular job. Assists with lines work as needed and scheduled.

May perform other construction-related ground work when equipment is not in use.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of:

* Knowledge of reading grade stakes, and operating crawler tractors, semi-tractors, and backhoes.

Skills in:

* Skills in the basic use of personal computers, including e-mail and PassPort

* Interpersonal communication

* Verbal and written communication.

Ability to:

* Ability to work under direct supervision or be self-directed

* Work with different foremen and crews

* Travel and work throughout Idaho Power Company (IPC) service area

* Use good judgment and initiative in resolving work problems

* Maintain neat, accurate, and legible records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

* High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

* Four or more years recent experience using mini-excavators, skid steers, trucks and trailers, and backhoes.

* Prefer:

* Building overhead power lines, setting poles, pulling wire and building roads and pad landings, running various pieces of equipment including excavators, backhoes, dozers, rope trucks and tensioners.

Licenses & Certifications:

* Valid Class A CDL driver's license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position, and valid DOT (Department of Transportation) Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire. As well as the following endorsements: hazardous materials, tanker, and air brakes. Must obtain endorsements within 90 days.

* Crane certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position lifts/carries up to 150 lbs. (75 lbs. in each hand) occasionally and 50-75 lbs. frequently to knuckle height. Lifting of up to 120 lbs. to shoulder height/overhead is required occasionally. Carrying is required up to 150 feet on ascents, descents, uneven, and sometimes loose terrain. Climbing of 8 foot ladders and onto/from trucks/trailers/heavy equipment is required. Drilling/packing off steep surfaces/rock faces is performed up to several times yearly while wearing safety fall restraints. Pushing up to 130 lbs and pulling up to 110 lbs. is required occasionally. Hand tools are used and attachment of blasting caps requires good manual dexterity. Shoveling is required to place stemming into 5 gallon buckets and to dig around utilities. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment physical evaluations, including a Post-Offer Employment Test (POET) and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate exam. Works hitches away from headquarters for extended periods of time. Works overtime at the discretion of the supervisor. Must attend and successfully complete earliest scheduled crane certification class.
