Position Overview:

This position supports the Honors College and university by providing highly-specialized academic and fellowship advising. The position advises Boise State students and recent graduates for success in a variety of national and international competitive scholarships and fellowships. The Academic and Fellowships Adviser will also contribute to the expansion of the Honors culture by providing additional programmatic support. The position's academic advising ensures fulfillment of Honors graduation requirements, the House system, and successful completion of Honors signature courses.

Major Responsibilities and Job Duties Include:

* Raise awareness of fellowship opportunities

* Work with Honors staff and other campus units to recruit a diverse group of high ability candidates

* Coordinate and conduct information sessions and workshops

* Guide candidates through the fellowship application process

* Connect candidates with additional campus resources to help strengthen their applications

* Provide counseling relating to candidates' academic, personal and professional aspirations

* Organize and attend campus committee meetings/interviews

* Identify and research new fellowship opportunities

* Keep statistics on fellowships and monitor trends

* Remain active in the National Association of Fellowships Advisers and other relevant forums

* Assist Honors College House system activities including meeting with students, organizing social and service activities

* Advise Honors students on selection and integration of Honors College requirements with their programs

* Track Honors students with additional campus resources needed

* Participate in reading and assessing Honors applications

* Work with the Honors staff to maintain updated information in various media formats

* Work with the Honors staff to provide Honors signature courses

* Work with Honors orientation programs

* Meet with prospective students and parents interested in the Honors College

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree

* Three years' experience in advising

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience at a university writing center

* Recipient of a Fulbright, Boren, Truman or similar fellowship

* Experience in an Honors College

* A record of public presentations on national fellowships

* Participation in national seminars on fellowships

Salary and Benefits: $43,000 - $45,000/yr. plus an excellent benefits package.
