Junior Telecommunications Specialist

The Acuity team seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience, knowledge and skills as a Junior Telecommunications Specialist. This position supports a key federal Government client and is located in the Bluemont area of Virginia.

The Junior Telecommunications Specialist, a key part of the Secure Communications Team, provides both secure and unsecure telecommunications connectivity, voice and video, for the Agency. This position supports telephone and Video Telecommunications systems for the Agency and serves as an on-call 24/7 point of contact for all communications issues relating to maintaining continuity of mission critical operations for the facilities.

This position is part of a team within a matrixed organization, where client interaction and customer service are critical to the success of this role. Strong communication, tact and business acumen are inherent in this position. You should be skilled at navigating through the challenges of working with a dynamic and ever changing landscape that comes with supporting high level government officials. The ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment is imperative.


Some key functions of this role are as follows:

* Responsible for managing classified voice and classified and unclassified video telecommunications and communications security resources for the Department and facilitates communication between the Department and various offices.

* Assists the Senior Telecommunications Specialist for all Bureau video teleconferencing resources at the unclassified, Secret, and Top Secret classifications levels, installed in the conference rooms, department offices and residences.

* Guarantees the physical and operational security for the classified video systems and conference rooms. Ensure all security policies and procedures are adhered for the prevention of potential security violations.

* Assists in the programming, operation maintenance, testing and connections for all secure voice telecommunications via all systems and networks.

* Serves as a customer service representative for telecommunications issues and provides technical support for project installations, design maintenance, and testing of telecommunications/data transfer equipment and systems.

* Makes phone patches and convenes conference calls for the stakeholders, as well as for senior officials from other agencies. Uses both regular phone lines and several types of secure phones to accomplish this task. Ensures conferees reach a consensus on an action to be taken and records that action.

* Skilled in the transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.

* Trains others in subjects related to information technology or telecommunication.

* Performs a wide variety of administrative duties including the preparation of routine correspondence, filing and maintenance of filing systems and database management.

* Maintains, operates and troubleshoots classified and unclassified fax machines and other office equipment.

* KNOWLEDGE of information security and physical security programs to safeguard, control, and regulate access to classified U.S. national security and cryptographic information.


* Associate's Degree

* At least 2 years general telecommunications/IT experience.

* Familiarization with networking concepts related to VoIP Telephony environment, telephone communications concepts, principles, and practices is preferred.

* Knowledge of telecommunications operating techniques, digital and analog communications requirements, local and wide area networking, and procedures used by federal and industry organizations.

* Knowledge of Video Teleconferencing systems desirable.

* Must be able to follow established policies and regulations with exact precision, attention to detail is a must for this position.

* The incumbent frequently works under severe time constraints and must be able to multi-task many complex tasks and scenarios in order to meet strict deadlines.

* Must be able to develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in the Telecommunications Unit and within the Operations Center.

* The incumbent must be in good health to deal with long hours occasionally needed in emergency situations. Must operate frequently in high intensity situations and under pressure.

* Working knowledge of Windows, MS Office and other PC based applications that may be used in the maintenance of documentation and records.

* A current valid and Approved Top Secret level clearance is required, with the ability to obtain an SCI.

* Occasional travel to support remote locations throughout the city as needed may be required.
