The Controller is responsible for all financial and controlling affairs as well as supply chain management for the Birmingham Site & the Global Drug Delivery Business. This person also manages the team that is responsible for financial issues, including accounting, controlling, budgeting, forecasting, finance, risk management, analysis, procurement, warehousing, and reporting at the Birmingham, Alabama and Burnaby, British Columbia (ETN) locations. The Controller supports the senior regional management of the Product Line as well as Product Line Controlling in Germany in understanding the existing cost and revenue structure of operations and making business decisions about future operations that improve profitability. The Controller is responsible for compliance in accounting and reporting Birmingham Labs and ETN results in the region.

The Controller is a key member of the senior management team with responsibility to develop financial metrics that gives management insight into the financial performance of their business decisions. The Controller is an expert in the full range of controlling topics: financial modeling, budgeting and cost controlling, manufacturing cost accounting, project cost accounting, systems integration, and revenue recognition in the accounting processes for complex contracts found in the health care business. The Controller is an expert in the technical and compliance aspects of these topics and a partner to senior business management in developing strategies for profitable growth of the business segments.

The Controller is responsible for oversite and site staff development in all areas that report up through this role, including Business Analysis, IT Project Management, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Accounting and Finance.


* Oversite for all matters of finance and accounting pertinent to operation of the Birmingham Site & Global Drug Delivery business.

* Responsible for preparation of management information that supports sites and Drug Delivery operations.

* Assumes the role of expert in the region on the accounting processes for complex health care industry contracts and agreements, guides management in the structuring of deals and ensures compliant accounting for project costs and revenues; provides additional guidance on profitability in order to maximize value across all revenue components of complicated multiple deliverable agreements.

* Responsible for preparation and analysis of timely, accurate management information for the site and PL including financial statements and key performance indicators in compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, as well as in conformance with BL reporting standards.

* Responsible to develop and maintain effective control structures for cost management, ensuring that operating costs of the business are communicated and managed at the proper levels and are measured against budgets and forecasts.

* Lead and develop key roles that report to this position on a global scale.


* A seasoned professional with 8 years of increasingly responsible financial management experience and knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, ledger accounting, investment calculations and knowledge of GAAP/IFRS in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

* BA/BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA, CMA or MBA, or long-term experience in a series of progressive accounting/controlling positions within Evonik.

* Familiarity with ISO certification, US and foreign regulatory agency cGMP's, and DEA requirements associated within the pharmaceutical industry.

* Knowledge of SAP systems including Business Data Warehouses as well as Excel.

* Must be analytical and have the ability to problem solve in a concise and logical manner.

* Ability to interpret financial and nonfinancial data and clearly articulate the economic impact of significant decisions.

* Travel expectation between 10% - 25%.
