Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the procurement of quality blood specimens via venipuncture or skin puncture technique, preparation of specimens for testing, and processing of specimens under the delegation of the miCare Practitioner(s). The Phlebotomist has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillfull, safe and accurate manner. This position will demonstrate miCare core values while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. This position will also perform applicable office and clerical duties as related to the daily miCare health center operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, biometric screening and exams

* Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems or directory of services.

* Responsible for completing all data entry requirements accurately including data entry of patient registration; entry of test order from requisition or pulling order from database; managing Standing Orders.

* Data entry and processing specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.

* Perform clinical-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed.

* Read, understand and comply with clinical policies, protocols and procedures and ensure that all team members follow instructions.

* Perform verification of patient demographic info / initials including patient signature post-venipuncture to verify tubes were labeled in their presence and that the name on the label is correct.

* Assist with compilation and submission of monthly statistics and data.

* Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.

* Complete training courses and keep up-to-date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.

* Participate on special projects and teams.

* Stay up-to-date on company communications.

* Provides timely and thorough follow up with staff, internal and external customers.

* May serve on committees, work groups, and/or process improvement teams to assist in improving quality/customer satisfaction.

* Performs self-quality monitoring in order to develop and execute plans to meet established goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Phlebotomy certification required.

* Minimum of two years' experience

* Current BLS

* Customer service in a clinical service environment

* Demonstrated knowledge on current standards of practice for personnel in medical based clinics

* Working knowledge of computers and software including but not limited to Microsoft Office products

* Strong written and oral communication skills

* Ability to maintain the confidentiality of protected health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations

* Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, multi-task and manage priorities in order to meet deadlines

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

Work is primarily indoors in an office environment with moderate noise. Intermittent physical effort involving lifting of up to 25 pounds, walking, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required. A typical workday involves sitting, frequent use of a keyboard, reaching with hands and arms, and talking and hearing, approximately 70% of the time. Approximately 80% or less of the time is spent standing. Normal vision abilities required, including close vision and ability to adjust focus.
