Drives the continuous improvement and sustainability of direct import products by developing networks and partnerships with cross-functional teams to ensure pre- and post-production quality and in-club delivery and stay current on product updates and seasonal correction-of-errors; participating in the evaluation and selection of trade groups (for example, Fair Trade, Cotton Grown in Africa) to partner with sourcing activities for assigned categories; and resolving import issues (for example, logistics, packaging, supplier contracts and vetting). Develops complex commodity sourcing strategies for assigned products by collaborating with cross-functional business partners (for example, merchants, planners) to understand growth in items, regions, and growing methods; serving as a subject matter and industry expert in understanding multiple commodities and items sourced both in- and out-of-season for country of assignment; overseeing assigned sourcing programs at item level, including seasonal and in-country regions and growing areas; influencing internal and external business partners (for example, merchants, growers) to bring product and packaging innovation to market; aligning sourcing strategy with the merchant's annual operating plan; providing perishability and quality insights to guide merchandise flow and replenishment decisions; incorporating company growth strategy into planning (for example, upstreaming, growth in direct import, protected agriculture); and coordinating complex commodities to ensure seamless transactions. Develops strategic grower and vendor relationships with multiple-year contracts for business continuity by identifying, developing, and maintaining grower relationships that meet company financial, ethical, and sustainability standards; assessing and developing vendor production, distribution, and technological capabilities to ensure adequate produce supply; identifying and developing new growing regions globally; conducting quarterly performance reviews with all vendors; and managing and resolving vendor issues.
