Data is at the heart of it all. Business Intelligence Engineer is a newly role in our team to build world class business intelligence, analytics, and reporting systems for Alexa Web Information systems. You will be a critical part of this journey. You will be accountable for establishing performance measures and analytics to support key business decisions, facilitate creation of KPIs, define standards on measurement, reporting and reviewing them and keep performance of Alexa services on track. You will work in an ambiguous, constantly changing environment and will be expected to balance detailed execution with speed and possess solid collaborative skills. You should have excellent business and communication skills and be able to work with various business owners. This position involves regular communication with senior management on project status and risks. Cross-team coordination, project management, and executive presentation skills are essential.

Key job responsibilities

· Develop and execute analyses to drive insights

· Create data capture and measurement strategies that drive business action

· Drive a roadmap from descriptive to predictive analytics, moving routine tasks to self-service for your client group

· Work closely with peers and stakeholders to access, pull, transform, and analyze data from a variety of sources

· Gather new data, and/or creatively use existing data to propose metrics and present them in compelling but easily understood way to a non-statistical audience.

· Compile results in a concise, meaningful, and actionable format and share findings to senior leaders

· Act as an Analytics SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the product

· Work closely with Data Engineers and Software Development Engineers to get new data pipelines implemented and create ETL pipelines when needed

· Prioritize between multiple requests and communicate clearly to stakeholders about any challenges and project delivery

Basic Qualifications

  • Quantitative or engineering background (e.g. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Biochemistry, Mathematics; Statistics; or 2+ years relevant experience).
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and ETL processes.
  • Experience with one or more industry analytics visualization tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, PowerBI).
  • Knowledgeable in methods for identifying trends in metrics.
  • Able to segment metrics along suitable dimensions to reveal deeper dynamics

Preffered Qualifications

  • Strong quantitative analysis and critical thinking skills
  • A deep empathy for the customer's experience and the ability to translate it to new BI metrics
  • A background in machine learning models or natural language processing
  • The ability to communicate, persuade and influence, both verbally and in writing
  • Agile product development experience and skill
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, SAS)
  • Experience with descriptive statistics (i.e. measures of distribution).
  • You are familiar with inferential statistics (e.g. hypothesis testing, confidence intervals) and know when such methods are appropriate.
