JOURNEYMAN BOILERMAKER I

ZACHRYis currently seeking a Journeyman Boilermaker I forMaintenance work.

Position Summary

AJourneyman Boilermaker I will support and execute the safe, quality, and efficient completion of various tasks related to mechanical maintenance work being performed at a petrochemical processing plant, including but not limited to:

• Craft specific mechanical labor
• Preparation, disassembly, repair, fabrication, reassembly, and/or installation of industrial equipment such as piping, fittings, valves, boilers, towers, vessels, tanks, exchangers, reactors, pumps, etc. as well as various structural components.
• Providing support services such as but not limited to firewatch, holewatch, bottlewatch, light equipment/vehicle operation, material kitting/delivery, general housekeeping, etc.

• Must be willing and able to work:
  • Up to 7 days per week
  • Overtime, call-out, etc. as required
• Must be capable of working under the direction of a skilled Leadman and under the supervision of an experienced Foreman.
• Must be experienced with and/or capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications necessary to oversee safety-sensitive work which includes but is not limited to the preparation, set-up, and execution of hot work, confined space entry, and fresh air work.
• Must be experienced with and/or capable of successfully completing all required training/qualifications necessary to utilize all related tools, apparatuses, equipment, etc. to execute safety-sensitive work which includes but is not limited to the preparation, set-up, and execution of hot work, confined space entry, and fresh air work.
• Will be expected to assist other crafts when not actively performing craft helper/labor (mechanical) activities.
• Must be capable of reading, understanding, and adhering to restrictions and/or requirements of various types of work permits and/or JSAs.
• Must successfully complete Short Service Employee (SSE) program, if applicable.
• Must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period. Any disciplinary and/or attendance issues during this time will be grounds for termination.
• Must maintain satisfactory bi-annual evaluation scores of no less than 3.0. Unsatisfactory bi-annual evaluation scores of less than 3.0 for two consecutive cycles will result in disciplinary action, up to termination, for poor performance.

Position Responsibilities

• Must have a strong approach, understanding, and commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in an industrial environment.
• Must be capable of and will be expected to perform pre-task hazard assessments to identify potential risks and implement pro-active elimination and/or mitigation techniques.
• Must have extensive and demonstrated experience performing maintenance on various types of industrial equipment in a petrochemical facility.
• Must actively participate and support site programs such as (at a minimum):
  • Safe Catch/Quality Catch/Stop Work Authority
  • Continuous Improvement (SMART Focus)
  • Applicable customer initiatives/programs
• Must be experienced with the preparation, disassembly, repair, fabrication, reassembly, and/or installation of industrial equipment such as piping, fittings, valves, boilers, towers, vessels, tanks, exchangers, reactors, pumps, etc. as well as various structural components.

Preferred Qualifications

Current or Former Zachry Employee with acceptable ESR rating.

Reports to Position

This position does not have any direct reports.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Performance Verified (PV) certification for Boilermaker I or certification from accredited Boilermaker training program.
• Must have at a minimum 4 years of related experience as a Boilermaker.
• Must have experience using industrial hand and power tools in an industrial work environment.
• Must possess good problem-solving abilities and an agile mindset.
• Must possess aptitude for mechanical equipment, have effective computing, literacy, and numeracy skills, and manual dexterity.
• Must possess the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and valid Drivers License.
• Must possess effective communication skills (written and/or verbal) with co-workers, supervisors, and customer.
• Must possess a strong commitment/understanding of Zachry and customer core values, safety rules, and regulations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid TWIC card for the duration of employment.
• Must successfully complete and maintain applicable Safety Council and/or Site-Specific credentials for the duration of employment.
• Must be capable of reading and comprehending technical manuals as well as industrial/engineered drawings such as but not limited to blueprints, sketches, plans, P&ID, etc. to determine scope of work, locations, required tools/equipment, and bill of materials to execute activities.
• Must poses knowledge and experience of hoisting/lifting/and rigging practices to execute these activities in a safe and controlled manner with the assistance of come-along, cranes, etc.
• Must poses knowledge and experience with verifying vertical and/or horizontal alignment, elevation, etc. with such tools as plumb bobs, laser alignment equipment, transits, levels, etc.
• Must poses knowledge and experience with cutting, bending, basic welding, of various metal materials using shears, torches, welding equipment, etc.
• Must poses knowledge and experience with bolting, torquing, and tensioning practices to execute these tasks in a safe, quality, and controlled manner.
• Must be capable of leading and mentoring other crew members such as helpers, apprentices, and Journeymen II.
• Must possess skills and ability to preplan, coordinate, and order material for specific jobs/activities/tasks.
• Will be expected to assist other crafts when not actively performing boilermaker activities.

Physical Requirements

• Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, cycling, bending, squatting, lifting, and physically demanding work.
• Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
• Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Must be capable of lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50lbs.
• Must be capable and comfortable working at extreme heights on fixed, temporary, and/or mobile platforms.
• Must be capable and comfortable working within confined spaces to include but not limited to tanks, vessels, pits, excavations, etc.
• Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
• Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, chemical suits, and steel-toe boots.
