Position Overview

Starting salary range is $42,661 to $47,988. The initial salary offer is commensurate with education and related work experience.

Under the guidance and direction of the Executive Director and Director, the Carpenter performs skilled and complicated maintenance tasks in the carpentry field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled carpentry tasks, including tearing down and constructing walls and building items such as bookcases, fences, adjusting doors, etc.
  • Repair and refinish tables, desk, and other furniture.
  • Complete projects that may include floating walls, painting and varnishing, installing blackboards, shelves, glass, doors, door closures, etc.
  • Estimate materials required for construction projects and other materials.
  • Transport equipment and materials as needed.
  • Conduct finish and trim work, build projects, pour concrete, lay steel, and structural support.
  • Perform welding as needed.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Move furniture to set up classrooms and/or shop facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Ten (10) years of demonstrated abilities in carpentry, installation, wood, steel, and metal installation
  • Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety
  • Proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout or stairs and common rafters, and utilize appropriate math skills
  • Must have mathematical skills and analytical skills to do estimates
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the construction process that facilitates harmonious working relations during the project, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur
  • Must be familiar with and work within industry safety requirements for tools, equipment, and use of personal protective equipment
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry loads of eighty (80) pounds for fifty (50) feet or more on a frequent basis
  • Ability to perform tasks in all areas and aspects of construction project
  • Must be able to read and use MEP blueprints and system diagrams
  • Ability to climb ladders up to sixty (60) feet and crawl for distances of fifty (50) feet
  • Must be able to work from ladders, boom trucks, or man lift
  • Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, squat, bend, stoop, twist, walk, grasp/squeeze for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work in hot, humid, wet, and/or cold conditions as warranted
  • Able to work individually and/or in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Must be customer focused; continually improving on customer service
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry loads of fifty (50) pounds or more on a frequent basis; must be able to work from ladders, boom truck, or man lift.
