Laboratory Technician/R&DChemist – Burnside Laboratory Technician/Research & Development Chemist (BSand MS Entry Level)

The Burnside Plant, operatedby Veolia, is located near Baton Rouge, Louisiana , and produces a variety ofsulfuric acid strengths, both fuming and non-fuming. The plant services a variety of users whichinclude health care, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemical manufacture, andrefiners. Analytical testing of thesulfuric acid product is necessary to meet Veolia corporate specificationsalong with customer specifications. TheLaboratory Technician in this position will provide technician expertise for theanalytical testing of sulfuric acid samples (fuming, non-fuming and spent) fromthe Burnside Plant Site and the six (6) other Veolia N.A. Sulfuric Acidproduction plant sites. The LaboratoryTechnician should be willing to adapt to business growth needs (addition ofplant sites and/or site process) that will increase the amount of routineanalytical testing and laboratory research and development.

As a Laboratory Technician/R&DChemist, functioning as a part of a research and development team and assistingthe Lead Chemist in conducting and documenting experiments in a safe andenvironmentally responsible manner is imperative. The technician will use analyticalinstrumentation to provide data for product quality and processcapability. The position is responsiblefor using chemistry-based knowledge to aid in designing experiments, dataanalysis, and scientific testing methodologies to solve problems in support ofproduction. It will be expected that thelaboratory technician/R&D chemist can interpret and analyze results,recognize erroneous or unexpected results, and make suggestions on the pathsforward based on analysis and conclusions. All seven (7) sulfuric acid production plants are a 24 hour operatingfacility, if deemed necessary by production, the laboratory technician/R&Dposition may require availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.

General Requirements:

* In depth knowledge of analytical chemistry

* Ability to conduct and interpret analytical testing byinstrumental and wet methods

* Ability to work effectively with a range of technicaland operations personnel

* Provide technical guidance on complex issues requiringindependent and/or teamwork analysis and judgement

* An ability to provide technical support for businessdevelopment

* Assist in executing research and method developmentexperiments

* Capable of performing instrumentation troubleshooting,

* Ability to presentation to internal (and occasionalexternal) project teams.

* Business Travel to other plant sites (~5-10%)

Skills and Technologies:

* Demonstrate strong technical writing skills (createand prepare reports)

* Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite,especially Excel®

* Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices

* Strong time management for managing multiple deadlines

* Experience with a variety of analyticalinstrumentation

o Titrations

o Total OrganicCarbon (TOC)

o InductivelyCoupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

o GasChromatography (GC)

o UV-VisSpectroscopy

* Experience working with laboratory computer software,e.g. ChemStation, BlazeLIMS, SampleManager, SAP, etc.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

* Bachelor degree in chemistry or related field

* GPA of 3.0 or higher (on 4.0 scale)

* Prior related work experience of 5 years

* Demonstrated ability in communicating with impact,teamwork/collaboration, analysis and judgment, managing for productivity, embracingchange, and engagement

* Must have current and valid drivers license
