Johns Hopkins Medicine is committed to a tripartite mission of Patient Care, Research and Education. The department provides full radiation treatment services at 5 campuses in the Baltimore and Washington areas. There are currently 12 medical accelerators, anticipating to grow to 15. The new proton center is scheduled to start treating patient in October of 2019. The center will have three rotating gantries for clinical use and one fixed beam room for research. Our Department of Radiation Oncology provides a full range of clinical services at JHU and one satellite facility, including IMRT, image-guidance, stereo-tactic radiosurgery (linac based and GammaKnife), as well as HDR and LDR brachytherapy. The department is equipped with 2 Philips CT Simulators, 3 new Elekta Accelerators, a Tomotherapy system, an Accuray Cyberknife, and a Nucletron HDR unit. Treatment planning is currently performed on Philips Pinnacle system and Impac Mosaiq OIS for treatment management. The proton therapy center will use the Raystation treatment planning system.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Clinical Physicist position will be responsible for all aspects of medical physics duties pertaining to a proton therapy clinic, which includes but not limited to radiation protection, acceptance and commissioning for radiation therapy equipment including treatment machines and treatment planning system, simulation, treatment planning, machine and patient specific quality assurance. The Johns Hopkins National Proton Therapy Center (JHNPTC) at Sibley Memorial Hospital JHNPTC is equipped with a state-of-the-art Hitachi proton therapy system with three gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. Each gantry room is equipped with scanning beam technology along with cone beam CT imaging, robotic six degrees of freedom couch, and real image guided gating system. The successful applicant will be working in close collaboration with physicians, dosimetrist and therapists.
Master or Ph.D. Degree in Medical Physics or related fields. Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Radiology or the American College or Medical Physics.
Strong interest and commitment to proton radiotherapy.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience with proton radiotherapy preferred but not required.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
