Under general supervision, assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of personal computer hardware and software on City Local and Wide Area Networks; assists users, provides training, installs networking hardware and software, and performs other work as required.

Representative Duties:

The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position's essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Assists in helpdesk support to users, prepare and deliver equipment as assigned; installs network hardware and software including, but not limited to personal computers, printers, modems, scanners, Windows Operating System, networking hardware and software, telecommunications software, general office and specialized application software; upgrades personal computers with additional memory, hard drives, CD ROM drives and other peripherals; performs basic personal computer troubleshooting and repair.

Minimum Qualifications:Applications will be accepted only for those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED Application, Resume, any Technical Training Certifications and Supplemental Questionnaire that they possess the minimum qualifications which include:

* Graduation from high school or GED equivalent AND six (6) months of recent experience maintaining networked personal computers, OR;

* An Associate Degree or higher in Information Technology (or closely related field), OR;

* An equivalent combination of training, certification and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties

* Possession of an A+ Certification (submit a copy of your certification along with the application)

Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License. NOTE: Upon a conditional job offer, applicants will be required to submit a current driver history report (DMV printout) from the Department of Motor Vehicles dated within two months. There will be no substitutions for the official or unofficial DMV printout. The DMV printout must be submitted to Human Resources within 72 hours of the conditional job offer. Online printouts are acceptable as long as they are from the official DMV website.

* Must be able to pass a police background check

* Highly Desirable Certifications: N+, MCITP, MCTS, MCSA, MCSE?

* Highly Desirable Experience: Windows 7, Windows XP, Active directory, MS Office, MS System Center Configuration manager, Spiceworks Help-desk and Customer Service

OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: basic personal computer and network troubleshooting techniques, hardware and software installation, basic component-level PC maintenance, and Windows operating systems. Ability to: remove and install components inside a PC such as memory, disks, and option cards; install printers, scanners, and other PC peripherals, including their associated driver software; install and remove PC applications, network clients, and the Windows operating systems; and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: Standard office environment and conditions, including lifting and placement of computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Written/Performance Exam (Pass/Fail) June 8, 2018 (Tentative): The written/performance exam is the first phase of the examination process and measures your general IT knowledge. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

Oral Appraisal Interview (Weighted 100%) June 15, 2018 (Tentative): An appraisal will be made of applicant's education, training, experience, communication skills and personal qualifications. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. *NOTE: Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination. Employment applications must be properly COMPLETED in accordance with instructions on face of application form. All pertinent information needed to determine that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications MUST BE SHOWN on the City application, supplemental questionnaire, resume, DMV printout and any technical training certifications, otherwise, the application may be rejected.
