About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Emergency, Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the certification of Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of employment.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Ft. Gordon is located in Augusta, Georgia. It is less than 150-miles east of Atlanta, and is an easy drive to Atlantic beaches or the mountains. Augusta is Georgia's second largest city and is known worldwide for the Masters Golf tournament. Located on the Savannah River, the "Garden City of the South" also offers fine dining, professional sporting events, shopping at great stores and unique specialty shops and first-rate cultural events and concerts. The Riverwalk Augusta, Augusta Canal, Phinizy Swamp Nature Park and Brookfield Park are all recreational facilities found within the city. The city is also home to Augusta State University.

* Assist the physician in the performance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and other specialized procedures.

* Operate specialized medical equipment such as resuscitator, defibrillator, electrocardiograph, oxygen apparatus, intravenous pump, rapid intravenous infuser, and infant servo-warmer.

* Screen patient's health history, complaints, medications, and identify health related conditions that may impact the patients' health status.

* Implement physician orders and initiate a nursing plan of care for individual patients.

* Serve as a Charge Nurse and perform a variety of administrative duties and data collection as an extension of and in support of the Clinical Head Nurse and the Assistant Head Nurse.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

* Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

* Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

* This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

* A pre-placement medical examination is required.

* Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.

* Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

* This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

* Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

* May include shift work or rotating shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays).

* This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

* This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within 6 months of employment.

* This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification within 12 months of employment.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Emergency):

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or

Degree and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes caring of Emergency patients or patients with emergency medical conditions, recognizing or responding to life threatening situations, and performing triage.
