Summary:

Chenega Professional &Technical Services is seeking a ScientistV to work in the field ofinfectious and zoonotic diseases, to provide laboratory, scientific supportservices for the Laboratory Preparedness and Response Branch at CDC. The staffwill lead scientific studies and complex scientific objectives of pathogenicmicrobiology and bacteriology research. The staff will directly researchcomplex projects in the field of pathogenic bacteriology, and be expected topossess and apply advanced knowledge of principals, practices, and procedures,to develop and evaluate of rapid antimicrobial susceptibility tests forbacterial agents Duties and

Responsibilities:

Developand evaluate rapid antimicrobial susceptibility tests for bacterial agents viabacterial culture, conventional and rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing,nucleic acid and protein extraction methods, PCR, genomic (DNA long and shortread) sequencing and DNA and RNA sequence analysis, as well as additionalmolecular analytical methodsCollaboratewith other team members to facilitate development of rapid test methods andevaluate new technologiesEvaluateand compare new laboratory equipment for use in detection of antimicrobial resistancePerformresearch, development and optimization of new assaysInvestigatenew laboratory methods (next generation genomic sequencing and other DNA-basedtechniques) and instruments (resistance detection platforms) for theirpotential to detect functional antimicrobial resistancePrepareand perform laboratory validation studies and analyze study data for new orimproved assays for the LRNDevelopstudy plans, risk assessments, and cost analysis for each new laboratorydevice/instrument to be evaluated by the laboratoryAnalyzedata and prepare detailed reports on the methods and results from laboratoryinvestigationsSupportemergency response activities, such as coordination and performance oflaboratory testing, data analysis of laboratory results, and reporting; asdetermined necessary by LPRB leadershipOtherduties as assigned Minimum
