Job summary

Amazon Photos helps consumers preserve and re-live their memories. Amazon Photos is the latest digital offering to consumers released on the heels of the Amazon Music and Amazon Video offerings. We have ambitious goals to scale growth and adoption of the service around the world and delight our customers with a great product.

Amazon Prime members get free, unlimited, full-resolution photo storage, plus 5 GB video storage. All other customers get 5 GB photo and video storage. Our apps are available on iOS, Android, Web, Desktop, Fire Tablet, Fire TV and Alexa Devices.

We have been growing as a business and now we are growing as a team, looking to add a Technical Product Manager responsible for the features that drive revenue: Photo Printing and Storage Subscriptions. Our Prints products help customers relive their memories in the physical form, such as Photo books, wall art and photo gifts. Our Subscriptions offering provide customers easy ways to upgrade their storage to a plan that works best for their needs.

Who you are

You love products and you love the art of product management. More than anything, you love inventing on behalf of customers. You are looking for a place to apply your experience as a human-focused inventor, and to learn from a team of other product practitioners. You love to learn by diving deep into both behaviors and tech, and you use this super power of dive deep to deliver results. Beyond a love of your discipline, you also love the idea of making products that help customers preserve, relive and share their photos and other memories.

Given this role is a more technical product role, you are also someone who has worked as an engineer or worked closely with an engineering team, contributing to technical and architectural decisions which impact the short, medium, and long-term success of your products. You are comfortable setting and tracking the right success goals in your domain, and building a roadmap to achieve them.

Key job responsibilities

As a ‘Product Manager -Technical’ for Revenue Products, you will invent ways to grow customer adoption of Prints and Subscription features, while simplifying the architecture behind these services to ensure we can offer the best experience to customers anywhere in the world. You will work with a variety of stakeholders to achieve your roadmap: providing vision on the technical architecture to the engineering teams, ideating growth strategies with the marketing team, partnering with finance to uncover opportunities to grow customer lifetime value, and owning the relationship with vendors that support our service.

A day in the life

A winning photos experience can deliver joy to customers throughout the day: a walk through memory lane with “This Day” as you start your morning, a smile generated as you walk by an Echo Show or Fire TV or glance a beautiful family portrait printed on the wall; and, at the end of a refreshing weekend when you share the dozens of memories captured with grandparents far away and receive their heartfelt thanks.

However, while the opportunity to enrich people’s lives is enormous, we are at a structural disadvantage to the two incumbents in our market-segment: both own/develop mobile operating systems where they’ve integrated their photos apps at levels we do not have access to and both have over a decade head-start building features and technology to create photos experiences.

The right candidate for this role loves to be the underdog, has an enduring belief that Amazon can build something important in this product category with the right amount of innovation and customer obsession, and relishes in this unique challenge and opportunity.

In this specific role, you’ll have the opportunity to influence the end-to-end experience of two products, from when and how customers hear about it, how they receive and experience the product, to how they continue to engage with it. The right candidate relishes innovating with highly motivated lean teams, and can juggle a variety of product and program initiatives in order to drive long term success of the business. High ownership, invention and simplification, dive deep, and strong bias for action are essential to succeed in this role.
