Position Summary

The Lead Software Engineer writes and maintains code within applications and systems to implement capabilities and features, improve performance and maintainability, while reducing technical debt in alignment with product and technology roadmaps. The Lead Software Engineer plays a role in Agile planning, providing advice and guidance, monitoring emerging trends and technical leadership and expertise across the team.

A successful candidate will have the responsibility of developing and maintaining a set of microservices and front ends that integrate across several platforms and applications that power Manheim’s front end private stores for all buyer experiences. The role will involve working with the latest web technologies (.NET Core, Web API, AWS, ReactJS) on projects that will be used by both end consumers and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a wide range of high profile, accessible and standards-compliant web projects.
  • Work with colleagues and technical resources to define technical solutions that meet business requirements using agreed tools and technologies.
  • Develop solutions in-line with in-house standards and practices.
  • Carry out unit testing during the code development.
  • Produce technical documentation for software modules being delivered.
  • Contribute to the on-going development of best practices, identification of suitable new tools and system and service improvements
  • Works with Product Management to understand the challenges that customers and end users face in their day-to-day work and partner with them to design viable solutions.
  • Recommends viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team and reduce technical debt.
  • Foresees capacity requirements for component usage and identifies limitations.
  • Actively works with less experienced software engineers providing technical guidance and oversight

Qualifications:

  • BS Computer Science, or in related field
  • 7+ years of experience designing and building applications, with a minimum of seven years in internet systems architectures (a strong preference)
  • Significant experience (8+ years) with C#
  • 10+ years software development experience
  • Requirements Gathering, problem solving and analysis
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in web programming with extensive knowledge of C#, .NET Core, Web API,
  • Experience of other web development technologies including JavaScript, ReactJS, JSON, HTML 5, CSS 3.
  • Experience with NO-SQL databases (DynamoDB, Mongo, DocumentDB)
  • Experience with relational databases and web service architectures.
  • Strong understanding of internet, systems, web technologies and web service architectures.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with object-oriented software development methodologies and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of the software development lifecycle.
  • A good understanding of configuration management, testing and bug tracking; ideally with experience of NUnit (TDD).
  • Influences organization, customers, suppliers, partners, and peers on the contribution of own specialism.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation to support the delivery of a software project.
  • Take part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.
