Windows Systems Application Engineer I

Overview

The Windows Systems Application Engineer I, under the general direction from the Microsoft Platforms Manager and other engineers, will assist in many of the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success. These tasks will include documentation of the many and varied environments the team supports, maintenance of ticketing queues, configuration and remediation of backup jobs, assistance with code deployments, general assistance with projects, and first tier after hours on call duties.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

* General Windows operating system support.

* Maintain Service Now change and incident queue, closing tickets in a timely manner with appropriate documentation.

* Open change tickets for mid to senior engineers, and management as needed.

* Become thoroughly familiar with all compliance and security requirements, adhering to all policy and standards.

* Ensure team servers are backed up consistently and successfully, working with backup team as needed to resolve any outstanding issues.

* Assist mid to senior engineers with code deployment preparation; provide assistance with night time and weekend deployments as needed.

* Assist other engineers and management with any other projects as needed.

* Manage a small subset of servers and environments related to critical processes.

* Document processes; look for opportunities to document any that lack it; maintain SharePoint document library, updating documents periodically.

* Communicate effectively and appropriately, deferring to management on communicating with external teams as needed.

* Provide internal and external customers with excellent customer service while striving to provide world-class service.

* Attend departmental, project and general meetings and effectively represent current status as appropriate.

* Participate in company provided training and perform independent training and research as appropriate.

* Install system patches and application updates as directed.

* Participate in an on-call support rotation for providing after-hours support.

* Maintain team on-call calendar as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge

* Windows Server and Desktop operating systems.

* Windows domain and networking principles.

* Server and desktop hardware.

* Virtualization technologies.

* Internally developed application servers.

* Cross platform application integration.

* Web services, Java virtual machines, and the applications that run with these technologies.

* IIS and other web servers.

* Load balancing methodologies and technologies.

* Scripting languages, particularly PowerShell.

Skills

Experience

* Minimum 1-3 years of experience in the Information Technology field preferred.

* Minimum 1-3 years of experience with Windows servers and desktops preferred.

* Technical degree or equivalent work experience required preferred.

* Job related certifications preferred.

WORK CONDITION

Normal office environment; may be stressful at times. There may be a requirement to occasionally work a flexible schedule with the possibility of working long hours.
