Omron Adept Technologies (OAT) is the world leader in autonomous intelligent vehicles. Our mobile robots operate 24/7 and work autonomously in factories around the world (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUr6-nFtRI8). The Mobile OS group provides the software that interfaces with the x86 hardware onboard our mobile robots and network appliances. We are currently seeking an intern with a mix of hardware and software skills to help us improve our autonomous robots. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a STEM background who will work with a small team focused on operating system development. We require an individual who is willing to jump into anything from benchmarking hardware components to building Linux kernels; developing web apps and services to qualifying a software release.

A successful candidate will be expected to be passionate about technology and will quickly contribute to the development efforts of the Mobile OS team. He/she should have the ability to perform a wide variety of task including; test and qualification, documentation and reporting, installing, benchmarking, as well as analysis and investigation. He/she will report to the Mobile OS manager in Amherst and be expected to work with others in the OS team, as well as other software, system and application engineering team members.

Qualifications:Required:

A willingness to perform a wide variety of task including, test and qualification, documentation and reporting, installing, benchmarking, as well as analysis and investigation, is a must.

Hands-on experience with one or more Linux distributions (Debian based preferred).

Proficiency in programming with 2 or more of the following languages; Bash, Perl, Python, PHP, web development, and C.

Desired:

Experience compiling Linux kernels from source.

Familiarity with basic computer and networking hardware components and associated tooling and fixtures.

An understanding of storage, and networking subsystems as well as the phases of the Software Development Lifecycle

Experience with IoT, Robotics, and full-stack development

Other:

Fluent in English.

Education:

High school graduate currently enrolled or recent graduate of, a STEM-focused undergraduate or trade school program.
