The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant functions under the general supervisor of physical medicine and under the direct supervision of the therapist responsible for a specific patient's care. The staff Physical Therapist Assistant assumes the responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides physical therapy modalities, treatment procedures, and wound care, including the application of topical medications, as determined by a treatment plan established by a physical therapist and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

* Current state licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant

* Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

* Ability to read, write and converse in English

* Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others

* Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions

* Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation

* Ability to lift and transfer patients exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently

* Ability to tolerate prolonged walking and standing

* Ability to have sensory skills to differentiate clinical signs and symptoms

* Ability to deal with a variety of stressful situations including emergency response to patient incidents
