Defines, designs, and implements continuous improvement programs/approaches to ensure they are integrated vertically and horizontally across the organization and are "fit for purpose". Defines/scopes improvement projects and initiatives that are consistent with strategic business goals. Uses multiple management and improvement philosophies/toolkits (lean, six sigma, computer simulation modeling, behavioral science and/or project/program management) to ensure optimal performance of business/operational/technical processes as a method to maximize customer and stakeholder value. Facilitates, trains, coaches, and interacts with improvement teams and affected parties, including suppliers, customers, and all level of employees from the shop floor through executive management. Establishes and maintains goals/metrics for improvement projects/programs and analyzes to ensure success. Defines and develops competencies in evolving improvement toolkits. Assists with improvement execution, as needed, to provide project/program management functional support. May possess formal certifications in specific improvement methods (i.e. six sigma, lean) or project/program management.

Specific Job Responsibilities

The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) PES Support Lead is responsible for the successful training and integration of Performance Enterprise System (PES) activities within the CNS Enterprise. PES is a collection of lean tools and concepts that help teams solve problems, improve their processes, and most of all reduce frustrations. The PES Support lead is an advocate promoting the benefits of PES to all organizations and works to continually improve the way their work is executed as well as inspiring others to want to continually improve.

Duties include:

Works closely with CNS organizations to ensure change agents and Value Stream Element (VSET) teams are trained in PES.

Serves as the primary point of contact for the CNS PES/Yellow Belt training classes. This includes but is not limited to Verifying attendees; Scheduling and preparing speakers and coaches; Scheduling the class room space and preparing the room; coordinating with their cross site counterpart in maintaining configuration control for all PES presentations, exercise documentation, feedback forms and other data related to the course; Ensuring modules will function as intended; Preparing materials for each class; Teaching various lean modules and facilitating PES classroom exercises;Liaising with the training organization to ensure proper course credit is granted after completion of the PES course.

Provides other PES training support (such as customized training, lean field support, and process improvement coaching) on an as needed basis.

Serves as the PES success point of contact providing monthly touch points with PES class alumni and collecting data on their PES implementation. Coordinates with Communications to provide publicity for PES alumni implementation stories.

Serves as a LSS point of contact providing structure and support launching Pantex VSET teams. Provides tracking, tools, and continuing education opportunities for existing VSET teams.

Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required

Demonstrated ability to work independently and interface effectively with all levels of employees and management. Team orientation and the ability to be effective in a matrix organization are essential. Requires ability to take a leadership role with single and multi-discipline teams. Must be capable of leading multi-site teams through the use of available communication technology (phone, computer, video, etc.).

Must be able to communicate effectively via written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills, and a high level of personal motivation. Effective planning, organizational, and decision making skills; and an ability to work with groups or individuals to implement changes. Must be self-motivated, open-minded, and willing to implement new ideas. Must be willing to serve as a change agent and be persistent and committed in the face of opposition.

Must have knowledge of and demonstrated experience using Lean concepts and tools. (Candidate must include example(s) of their past and/or ongoing continuous improvement efforts in their application).

Must possess self-motivation, with the ability to work autonomously based on high level instructions from management.

Must have strong analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and make data informed recommendations and decisions.

Must have a collaborative work style with high interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with, and effectively communicate with peers, senior leaders, and team members at all levels in the organization.

Must have strong attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and follow through across a broad band of activities and logistics.

Must have a strong commitment to completed staff work.

Must have strong computer skills (specifically: Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and have ability to learn/utilize relevant software programs.

Must have demonstrated success in coordinating events, projects, and/or actions of team members at varying levels in the organization. (Candidate must include example(s) in their application).

Requires demonstrated analytical skills for solving complex problems. Must have strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and have ability to learn/utilize relevant software programs (i.e. Minitab and iGrafix).

Education & Relevant Experience

Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Typical relevant experience ranging from 7 to 10 years. Prior adult teaching experience is a plus. Yellow Belt Certification highly desired. Please reference Business Professional (BP) Ladder.

Note 1: The job level will be determined based upon relevant education and experience of the selected candidate.

Note2: Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. (The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance is required.)

Note 3: This position requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position.

Note 4: The minimum education and experience for the lowest career level in the job posting range are listed under Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required. Successful candidates hired into a higher career level than the minimum in the range must meet the requirements listed in the job leveling charts for the career level into which they’re being hired.
