Department Profile:

Florida Hospital Altamonte's Emergency Department is a 53-bed, level II nationally designated Brain Attach Center, with 30,000 square-feet of patient-centric space. The unit is designed with all private rooms for a quieter, calming experience in a true healing environment. Our ED is fully equipped to care for all medical and surgical emergencies, for patients of all ages.

Work Hours/Shifts:

11:00am – 11:00pm / 3/12's

Job Summary:

The ED technician under the direct supervision of the professional nurse, ED director, Nurse Manager, ANM, or Charge Nurse; performs general clinical, non-clinical and clerical services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the Emergency Department and hospital administration. Adheres to the Florida Hospital corporate compliance plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

* Basic Computer Knowledge

* Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, or Medical Assistant course

* Bilingual (Preferred)

* Customer service experience (Preferred)

* Monitor Tech cross-training (Preferred)

* High school graduate or GED (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

* Florida Nursing Assistant Certification, EMT, or Medical Assistant

* BLS certification.

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital's core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork as outlined in the organization's Performance Excellence Program booklet

* Assists physician or RN with procedures and exams; set up and clean up for sutures, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, application of orthopedic splints and casting, etc. Applies slings, sling-n-swathe, finger splints, application of dressings, etc. for all age groups entering the ED. Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.

* Attaches 12 lead EKG's and completes test before giving strip to physician on duty.

* Initiates cardiac monitoring as directed by RN, performs venipuncture for serum testing, and blood glucose monitoring. Never draws blood from an existing IV line. Supports Clinical Best Practice initiatives by performing 5 minute EKGs, entering orders for CBP order sets, prepping for blood cultures and expediting care.

* Is a customer service champion as demonstrated by AIDET, keeping patients informed, providing information and updates to patients, apologizing for waits, demonstrating caring, compassion, & concern, demonstrating a sense of urgency, advocating for pain management, and ensuring that patients can get help at any time. Performs hourly rounding on patients to keep them informed and to ensure that the patients have call bells, pillows, blankets as needed, that care givers names are on the boards (applicable campuses), and that patient and family needs are exceeded.

* Cross trains and is able to relieve HUC as needed; performs accurate order entry, maintains admission log, manages phone calls, scans charts, maintains complete medical records for HIM pick-up

* Maintains room and work area organization and maintains rooms and work area cleanliness. Continuously stocks and replenishes stock levels throughout the department utilizing 5 S principles.

* Transportation of unmonitored patients to inpatient departments as needed, accompany RN to transport patients to specialty units.

* May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of Florida Hospital non-waived Point of Care training.

* May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. * Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
