JOB DESCRIPTION:

Teaches in a collaboratively developed, blended learning program in an innovative teaching and learning environment focused on purposeful learning and individual student growth; by encouraging, supporting and guiding students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to obtain a foundation for continuous growth and development; by establishing and maintaining effective rapport with students and their families; by assisting students in developing positive feelings toward themselves and others; by ensuring that rigorous standards are learned through the turnaround school's approach; by implementing the turnaround school's objective throughout the design and delivery of learning experiences; and by actively participating in the ongoing professional development of an innovative, collaborative, engaging culture of excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbant must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

* Actively participates in the development and implementation of the turnaround school's program of instruction

* Coordinates parent advisory activities and parent education workshops

* Plans and implements a program of study that integrates student voice and choice with State Department of Education Standards, school-wide objectives, and the APS Board of Education goals and objectives

* Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals

* Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units and projects in harmony with curriculum goals, communicates the content and objectives to students, and measures and analyzes ongoing progress in all objectives

* Selects and employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting turnaround school objectives in collaboration with colleagues

* Establishes and maintains standards of appropriate student behavior and discipline to achieve a vibrant learning atmosphere in the classroom and assists in its maintenance campus-wide to develop student self-control, focus, civility, internal motivation, positive social decision-making, empathy and the ability to adapt to changing social demands

* Evaluates and communicates the learning progress of students on a regular basis to all stakeholders

* Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required

* Administers and supports group standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program

* Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students' academic, social and behavioral progress

* Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students

* Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

* With the school team, selects and requests appropriate books, digital resources, and instructional materials that align with the turnaround school approach and objectives, and maintains required inventory records

* Implements effective learning programs and initiates referrals to appropriate personnel when concerns arise

* Provides directions and materials for substitute teachers. Plans for and supervises classroom aides, guests and volunteers

* Collaborates with staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning and behavioral problems

* Actively participates in professional development and collaboration to effectively implement the school's turnaround school objectives

* Ability to analyze student data and use data to drive instruction

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

The minimum expectations for this job are as follows:

* Highly Effective or Exemplary NM Teach ratings preferred

* National Board Certification preferred

* Effective communication skills, verbal, written and digital

* Flexibility, organization, decision making, professional collaboration, innovative, personable and problem solving skills

* Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person, on the telephone and in digital communication

* Knowledge and application of APS community, computer system, financial procedures and legal requirements

* Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others

* Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect

* Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students

* Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques

* Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff

* Knowledge and ability to write rigorous, standards based lesson plans

REQUIREMENTS:

The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:

* Expected to work eight and a half hours excluding a 30-minute lunch

* Expected to work an additional 10 days per contract school year

* Expected to work within a Community School Framework

* Bachelor's degree

* Current New Mexico teaching certificate in specified field

* Current endorsements dependent upon specific positions may be required

* Additional requirements may be applicable for specific positions

GROUP / GRADE:

* Pay for extended day and contract based on hourly rate and level

* $5000 additional incentive for teachers with National Board certification; district will financially assist teachers pursuing NBPTS certification

* Group bonus pay for iincreased test scores
