Position Summary

Identify repeat offenders committing the majority of crimes in the city and provide information on the offenders to police officers, detectives and the judicial system; and act as a liaison from the police department to the District Attorney's Office and the Court system as it relates to repeat offenders.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in police science, criminology, law enforcement, legal studies, paralegal studies or a related field, plus three (3) of research and/or data analysis experience. Experience in criminal justice is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

* Operations, services and activities of the Crime Justice System

* Principles and practices of program development and implementation.

* Methods and techniques of research and report preparation.

* Principles and practices of record keeping

* Recent developments, current literature and information related to the criminal justice System.

* Principles, practices, methodologies and techniques of crime activity analysis and prevention, law enforcement and police records processing

* Various computer software and systems.

* Principles of data collection and analysis.

* Research and design concepts.

* Advanced statistical concepts.

* English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

* Modern office procedures, methods and equipment.

* Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and safety regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

* Collect, analyze, and document complex statistical data.

* Respond to requests and inquiries from the granting agency, sworn and civilian APD employees, and the general public

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the general public

* Develop and maintain a computerized automated crime analysis system.

* Coordinate analysis support activities

* Perform statistical research and analysis

* Properly interpret tables, charts and graphs.

* Prepare clear and concise reports.

* Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications

* Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing repeat offender activity analysis and research

* Interpret and explain City and Police policies and procedures

* Communicate clearly and concisely
