The HPC Development department is seeking a Computer Scientist with skills in the development, deployment, and use of High Performance Computer (HPC) system monitoring, performance, and analysis tools. The successful candidate will need knowledge of HPC application and system performance analysis techniques and tools, their efficient use, and the effects of hardware architectural differences on results. Further, the successful candidate will need familiarity with contemporary HPC system software stacks and HPC system (as opposed to user application) performance and resource utilization monitoring. Knowledge of data management and analysis techniques as they apply to both user applications and system performance monitoring is also required.

Tasks potentially associated with this job may include:

* Development on existing HPC system monitoring code and infrastructure (e.g., the Lightweight Distributed Metric Service (LDMS) framework) for application- and system- level performance measurement

* Development and/or deployment of HPC system and user application performance monitoring tools

* Development and/or deployment of analysis techniques to aid in identifying system hardware that bottlenecks user application performance

* Processing and analysis (including visualization) of large-scale user application performance data including both numeric and log information

* Processing and analysis (including visualization) of large-scale HPC system resource utilization and performance data including both numeric and log information

Required Skills:

* Bachelors + 5 Years experience or PhD + 2 years experience or 9 years of experience in lieu of degree

* Knowledge of HPC computer and systems architecture

* Knowledge of HPC performance monitoring and measurement

* Efficient programming skills in C, C++, python

* Experience using statistical data analysis tools such as R, Excel, and Matlab

* Experience with scripting languages in a Linux environment

* Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of peer-reviewed publication of results and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences

* Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

Desired Skills:

* Direct experience in use and development of the LDMS code base on a variety of HPC system architectures

* Direct experience in use and development of plug-ins for LDMS

* Direct experience building and running applications on a variety of HPC system architectures

* Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance
