The Plant Manager leads all plant operations and continuous improvement activities with overall responsibility for safety, production, maintenance, quality, and other production support areas. This role will achieve excellence through people management and development, driving employee engagement, and meeting or exceeding the expectations of our customers. The Plant Manager will also focus on ensuring a safe work environment, optimizing throughput, and controlling cost while maintaining quality standards that results in maximizing profitability. The Plant Manager has direct leadership responsibility for the plant leadership team at a manufacturing facility.


* Responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning and program development (3, 6, and 12 months out) to ensure attainment of business plan for operational goals, labor planning, growth, and profitability

* Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and improve productivity to meet and exceed business objectives; works on strategic projects that have plant and network-wide impact. Effectively leverages the leadership team to solicit ideas and understand problems and challenges in the plant

* Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience

* Promote, provide leadership and drive Bemis's philosophy of continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality and Productivity

* Set clear goals and expectations for Operations and Area Managers. Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds leaders accountable

* Mentor and develop leaders and staff

* Directly leverages and indirectly manages resources located at the plant in the areas of purchasing, finance, human resources, and information technology

* Own and deliver the operational budget for functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning

* Continuously evaluate and measure current performance against forecast and cost estimates

* Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer needs

* Network with other leaders across the network to solicit and share process improvements and drive efficiencies and cost savings

* Coordinate plant activities through planning with onsite and offsite resources to ensure the manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner

* Develop and implement capital spending plans, within the scope of the CapEx approval process, that meet the ongoing needs for facilities, equipment, and productivity improvements

* Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary

* Provide clear communication with workforce and external partners; ensure departmental work methods are compatible with company standards and customer requirements

* Ensure the compliance of safety, environmental and quality guidelines and policies, and as required by regulations and customer requirements

* Develop and maintain a coordinated and efficient organizational structure focused on performing all operational duties


* Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to comprehend and analyze numerical and statistical data to drive operational decision-making

* Demonstrated ability to transform and align an organization by driving change through people, getting others to want to change, encouraging others to want to innovate themselves

* Ability to develop productive relationships and communicate effectively with management, peers, plant personnel, suppliers and customers


* A Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, or related field from an accredited university.

* Minimum 10 years of career progression including roles as a production manager, continuous improvement manager, manufacturing area manager, operations manager, six sigma black belt, or similar in a manufacturing environment; to include 5 years of leadership experience.

* Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean methodologies

* Knowledge of flexible packaging a plus

* Previous P&L responsibility a plus

* Previous experience leading in a union environment is highly preferred
