Position Summary

The Communications Manager will drive the development of strategy and tools for engaging a broad range of stakeholders about the company's research and technology efforts. This position will develop communications strategies for communicating a business-first approach to innovation. This manager will partner with the Chief Technology Officer, communications team members and business and functional leaders, to create communications that support Bridgestone's position as a technology leader. This position is responsible for the execution of planning and messaging for innovation priorities/programs and internal outreach events, as well as public and media relations support of business-related developments. This position will play a critical role in helping to establish broad awareness of the research and development functions at the ATC with all teammates and across the various businesses in the Americas. Similarly, this role will play an important conduit for helping to communicate enterprise-wide happenings within the ATC.

As a direct member of the communications function, this role has access to best practices being advanced in the company and will have the responsibility of leveraging these elements into the research and technology areas, and vice versa, offering feedback from the ATC into the communications strategy for the company. With a command of ATC language and operations, this position will also be the focal point for corporate (BSA) web properties and custodian of social media channels – working with the Senior Director of Communications - BSAM and marketing departments to ensure seamless integration of corporate positioning into web structures.


Overall, the results of the Communications Leader and the broader communications effort should drive programming that is:

1) Tailored to persuade and engage teammates;2) Integrated with enterprise messaging to drive alignment around key business priorities; 3) Drive functional and business change agendas, and 4) Support one Americas' voice and the Bridgestone's globalization agenda.

* Communications Strategy: Serve as a strategic communications advisor to business leadership teams; develop an integrated strategy approach with existing resources and align for efficiency and effectiveness; develop and implement communications strategies that serve to support organizational agendas – both external and internal strategies. Serve as liaison with business teams and communication to ensure synchronized messaging flows two ways. Develop and monitor KPIs to gauge the success of communications programming and related efforts.• Communications Materials: Prepare written materials including business communications, reports, presentation slide decks and scripts and marketing copy.• Special Projects Communications: Act as a key member on the development of special projects such as personnel changes, investments/closures, etc.• Teammate Communications: Establish an integrated internal communications discipline/protocol that incorporates HR/benefits communications with strategic business information as well for total engagement of teammates.• Media Strategy: Develop a comprehensive media relations strategy for appropriate marketing efforts, business priorities, plants/communities, and in support of CSR positioning.• CSR Programming: Oversee and enhance integrated approaches to local area CSR programming such as sustainability reporting, volunteerism, corporate giving and partnerships, and overall communications of such matters.• Crisis Preparedness: Coordinate efforts with the Crisis Management team to ensure integrated approach and quick turnaround strategy (from negative to positive) in case of protests or crisis.• Vendor and Budget Management: Oversee estimates, invoices and overall budget accountability; manage communications agencies support on PR, digital communications, CSR, and related activities, ensuring efficient delivery and strategic alignment with Americas-related efforts and corporate objectives. • Marketing Communications: Lead development of marketing and promotional materials for customer meetings, executive presentations and trade shows.• Digital Social Media Coordination: Work in coordination with business marketing and corporate Digital & Social Media teams and agencies to enhance as possible corporate positioning in social media channels.


* Minimum of bachelor's degree in a communications/public relations/marketing/branding field

* 7 plus years of work experience (or more) in communications, public relations, marketing, branding, and social media

* Proven ability to execute creative and strategic communications plans for both internal and external stakeholders

* Excellent writing, editing and project management skills

* Internal communications and change management fundamentals
