Equipment Supervisor I & II:

Oversees and coordinates equipment operations. Supervises a very small to medicum group of administrative and technical employees responsible for the repair and procurement of district equipment. Oversees other district shops as assigned. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Equipment Supervisor II:

Supervises a group of administrative and technical employees responsible for the repair and procurement of district equipment.

Duties

The essential duties for for an Equipment Supervisor I & II:

* Drives a vehicle and inspects and evaluates equipment condition and makes repair/replacement recommendations.

* Oversees and coordinates work of a Regional equipment shop.

* Oversees annual inventory of equipment.

* Provides input to or prepares annual equipment budgets.

* Provides training to shop employees.

* Troubleshoots difficult repairs.

* Writes equipment specifications.

* Writes, lets and monitors maintenance service contracts.

* Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Education

This job requires the following:

Equipment Supervisor I & II:

* High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

Equipment Supervisor I:

* 8 years in Maintenance or equipment repair

* (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

* Must have three (2) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.

* Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Equipment Supervisor II:

* 9 years in Maintenance or equipment repair

* (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

* Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.

* Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job:

* Valid Driver's License

* Safety Impact Certificate

Other Conditions:

* This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Conditions of Employment

* Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

* Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.

* Required to work weekends and holidays.

* Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

* Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

* Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

* Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he or she can report to work for emergency conditions.

* Successful completion of a criminal background check to include verification of identification and residency, and a national fingerprint-based records check at the employer's expense is required.

* Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.

* Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

* External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.

* External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System.

* Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required.

* If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office or http://www.twc.state.tx.us/.
