The Yahoo! Application Process

For this application guide, we applied for a position as a Web Application Engineer. From what we can tell, the job applications are pretty much identical for all positions at Yahoo!. However, it's possible that your experience may be a little bit different from ours depending on the position that you apply for.

Before you can fill out the Yahoo! job application, you will need to register on their hiring site. To register, you will need to provide a username, an account password, and your email address.

When you begin the application, you will be given the opportunity to upload your resume. Uploading your resume is not required at this point, but if you do choose to provide it, you can save yourself a lot of time. Yahoo! will read through your resume and use the information that it finds to fill in many of the application fields for you. This can be a great time-saving feature. If you do choose to use it, make sure that you double check all the fields that it fills in for you. While their program worked perfectly for us, it's possible that it could make a mistake. And it would be really unfortunate to miss out on a great job because of their error. If you would rather not upload your resume at this point, that's just fine. You can enter in all of the application fields manually.

During the application, you will be asked to provide some personal information including your name, home address, phone number, personal website URL (if applicable), work experience, and education. Note: you will need to provide the *exact* day that you started and ended your previous jobs. Make sure that you obtain that information before you begin the application. Yahoo! is very likely to verify these dates before they make an offer of employment, and it would be very unfortunate to have your application time out while you hunt the information down.

You will also have the chance to paste your resume. If you haven't already done so, make sure that you tailor it specifically for the position that you are applying for. We know that it can be a pain to do so, but this is your chance to demonstrate how your previous experiences have prepared you for the job. You should take advantage of that chance.

At the end of the application, you will be able to review all of the information you have provided before you submit it. Read over everything very carefully. Once you're happy with it, go ahead and submit it.

How to Get Updates on Your Yahoo! Application

Unfortunately, Yahoo! does not provide automatic application updates at this time. If you have already for a job with the company, you may find it very difficult to find out if you are still being considered for the position. If you are working with a specific recruiter, then contacting them would be your best bet. However, you are likely to be met with mixed success in your efforts to find out where you stand.
