The Google Application Process

For this application guide, we applied for a position as a Software Engineer. It's possible that your application experience may vary a little bit depending on the position that you apply for.

The Google application process is as simple and straightforward as they come. We've applied for jobs at hundreds of different companies, and this is probably the most applicant-friendly system that we have ever seen. The entire application is only one page, and Google asks for only the most necessary pieces of information from you. If you already have your resume and cover letter prepared, the entire application should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete. You are very unlikely to ever find a more friendly online application process.

On the application, Google will ask you for the following pieces of information: Your name, home address, email address, phone number, education, and work history. Nearly all of the fields are optional, but it would be wise to provide as much information as you possibly can.

You will also be given the opportunity to provide both your resume and your cover letter. Make sure that you take some time to customize both of these documents for Google and the position that you are applying for. This is your chance to explain exactly how your previous experiences have directly prepared you for the job that you are applying for. It's also an opportunity to demonstrate legitimate interest in the job and the company. While you might be tempted to recycle a generic resume and cover letter for the sake of speed, we highly recommend that you do not take that path. Take some time to customize your documents, and you will be better off for it.

How to Get Updates on Your Google Application

Google does not provide automatic application updates at this time. If you have already applied for a job at Google and would like to know where you stand, you will need to contact them directly. It might be hard to get an answer (unless you've been contacted directly by a recruiter), but it's the only real way to find out.
