The Bass Pro Shops Application Process

Bass Pro Shops has a very applicant-friendly application process. If you've already taken the time to prepare your resume, it shouldn't take you anymore than 15 minutes to complete.

The Bass Pro Shops application is comprised of five very straightforward pages. Before you fill out the application, you should take a little time to prepare the following information: Name, address, phone, email address, availability, salary requirements, education history, work history, and outdoors experience. In the outdoors experience section, you will be asked to select how knowledgeable you are about various outdoor sports. Answer honestly, but don't sell yourself short. If you have a little bit of experience in any area, say so.

At the end of the application, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume. Uploading a resume is not required, but you should definitely take advantage of the opportunity. It can be difficult to stand out through a standardized job application, and a resume gives you the opportunity to present your most relevant skills and experiences.

Reference check

When you submit your application, you are giving Bass Pro Shops permission to verify your employment with your previous employers. Make sure that you verify that your dates of employment are accurate -- don't guess. Call your former employers to verify the exact dates if necessary.

Types of people Bass Pro Shops wants to hire

Bass Pro Shops wants to hire hardworking, dedicated, and friendly people. For most positions, a passion and knowledge for outdoor sports is required. After all, it would be very difficult to help a customer with their questions about finding the right equipment for a sport if you weren't passionate about the sport yourself. Additionally, Bass Pro Shops places a lot of emphasis on customer service and sales. If you have any previous experience in those areas, you should do your best to emphasize that on your resume.

Age requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to work for Bass Pro Shops.

Business Summary

Leadership

Bass Pro Shops was founded by John Morris. Today, James Hagale is the President and CEO of the company.

Finances

Bass Pro Shops is a private company, so they are not required to disclose their financial information. However, it's estimated that they earned $3.8 billion in revenue in 2011.

History

John Morris (the founder) started his retail career by opening a fishing store in the back of his father's liquor store. AT the time, the fishing department sold only homemade bait and worms, but the biat soon became popular enough that Morris decided to start a catalog featuring his products.

As the popularity of the catalog grew (it would soon become the most popular sporting goods catalog in the world), it expanded from bait and worms and began featuring other types of outdoor equipment as well.

The company remained focused on the catalog business until the 1980s, when they started opening large retail stores to showcase their products. In fact, it wasn't until 1995 that they opened the first store outside of Missouri.

Today, there are more than 70 Bass Pro Shops locations in the United States, and the company employs more than 18,000 people.
