The Safeway Application Process

The Safeway job application is very short and extremely user-friendly. Hopefully more of their competitors will follow suit. From start to finish, it should take you fifteen minutes or less to complete the application (assuming you already have your resume prepared).

Before you can apply for a Safeway job, you will need to create an account on their hiring site. Creating account is a very quick process. You only need to provide your email address, an account password, and answers to four security questions.

Once your account is setup, you will begin the core of the Safeway application process. At the beginning of the process, you will be provided with the opportunity to import your resume. Not only will this put your resume on file, it will also automatically fill in some of the application fields with data from your resume. This can be a great time-saver, but make sure that you doublecheck everything that they fill in for you. While it worked fine for me with my test resume, you might not be as lucky, and an error could make you look lazy (even if it isn't your fault).

If you choose not to use their resume import tool, you will have another opportunity to attach your resume at the bottom of the application. You should definitely take advantage of this opportunity. Without a resume, Safeway will know absolutely nothing about your work history, experiences, and why you would make an excellent candidate for the position you're applying for.

Safeway asks for very little personal information during the application process, and we're very thankful for that. You will only need to provide the following information: Your name, phone number, address, email address, age, level of education, skills, and your resume. Seriously, that's it. Pretty nice, isn't it?

History

Safeway started out as 'Sam Seelig Company,' which was founded in 1912 by Sam Seelig. The first store was opened in Los Angeles, and by 1922 there were more than 70 stores. However, Seelig acquired a lot of debt over the first ten years, and he ended up trading much of his company to his creditor, who assumed ownership of the company.

After Seelig was out, the company was renamed to Safeway. At the time, most grocery stores offered credit to families -- and the debts the families owed were often very large after the Great Depression. The name 'Safeway' was chosen because the stores only accepted cash. Customers couldn't go into debt by shopping at the store, hence it was the 'safe way' to shop.

Ownership of the company changed hands multiple times since then, but the chain has always continued to grow. Today, there are more than 1,600 Safeway owned grocery stores in North America.
