The OfficeMax Application Process

The OfficeMax job application is pretty simple and straightforward, though it is long -- altogether, you should expect to spend between 40-50 minutes filling it out.

Before you can start the application itself, you will need to select the position you're looking for and the store where you would like to work. You will then need to create an account on their site, which requires your name and email address.

At this point, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume. If you have a resume ready, you should definitely take advantage of this feature. Their system will read your resume, and use it to fill in a lot of the application fields for you. This is a real time-saver, so make sure you use this feature if you have a resume prepared. If you don't have a resume ready, that's ok -- you can still enter everything manually.

You will now be asked why you're applying for the job. You will be presented with a textbox that you can write your answer in. This field is optional, but it's highly recommended that you fill this out. A good answer here could make the difference between getting the job and not getting the job. If you're not sure what to write, read through the OfficeMax 'about us' section to learn more about their corporate values. Do you share any of their values? If so, let them know.

Assessment

At this point in the application, you will be required to take an assessment. The assessment is built of two parts. The first part is forty questions long, and is designed to help them learn more about you and how you might behave on the job. To give you an idea of what to expect, here are a few sample questions:

"I generally stop and think things over before I act."

"I like doing things for my friends."

"Occasionally I lack a sense of responsibility."

"I tend to feel sorry for myself when things aren't going my way at work."

If you're not sure how to answer a particular question, take a moment to think about why they're asking it. What are they hoping to learn about you from that question?

The second part of the assessment is 12 questions. In this section, the questions are focused on asking very specific questions about your background. For example:

"How much time do you usually spend at work sending text messages to friends, or playing games on your cell phone or computer?"

"How many times have you used marijuana in the last month?"

Finishing up

To finish up the application, you will just need to provide your work experience and education.
