The Lowe's Application Process

For the sake of this application guide, we applied for a cashier job opening. Your experience may vary a little bit depending on the position that you're applying for.

Before you can apply for a job at Lowe's, you will need to create an account on their hiring website. To create an account, you will need to provide your email address, an account password, and an answer to a security question.

Once your account is created, it will be time to begin the application process. At this point, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume or paste it into a box. You must have a resume to apply for a position at Lowe's, and we highly recommend that you customize it for the position that you're applying for. Your resume should show very clearly how your skills and experiences have directly prepared you for the job that you're applying for.

You will now need to provide some personal information. Here is all of the information that you will need: Your name, email address, physical address, phone number, work history, education, schedule availability, social security number, and date of birth. We highly recommend that you take a few moments to prepare all of this information before you begin the application. Not only will being prepared help you complete the application as quickly as possible, it will also ensure that you don't get stuck on a piece of missing information and have your application time out (it can happen, and it stinks when it does).

Assessment

At this point in the application, you will need to take an assessment. The assessment is a series of 85 questions that are designed to help Lowe's determine if you would make a good addition to their team. To give you an idea of what the assessment will be like, here are a few example questions:

"A newly hired Associate is having a hard time learning his new job. You have been around for several years and really know the ropes. What would you do?"

"You are working the floor when you see a customer who is behaving suspiciously. You think he may be trying to steal something by the way he is acting. What would you do?"

"You are working in a part of the store that is not very busy. Your Manager has asked you to stock shelves in your area. Your co-worker is working in another section of the store that is having a sale and is currently very busy. What would you do?"

You should answer every question honestly, but you may find that there are times where you don't really have enough information to say for sure how you would react to a particular situation. In those cases, take a moment to think about why have those chosen to ask the question. What are they trying to learn about you?

Background check

At the beginning of the Lowe's application, you will need to consent to a pre-employment background check. Any employment offer that you receive is contingent upon passing this check.

Drug test

You will also need to consent to a pre-employment drug test. Any employment offer you receive can be rescinded if you do not pass the drug test.

Types of people Lowe's wants to hire

For most sales associate positions at Lowe's, you will need to have knowledge of the products in the department. For example, if you wanted to work in the plumbing department, you would need to have enough experience with plumbing and installation to recommend products to customers and help them understand how they should install their equipment. Previous sales and customer service experience is a big plus for all positions within a Lowe's store. If you have any experience in those areas, you should emphasize that on your resume.

Also, as with most retail stores, Lowe's is busiest on nights, weekends, and holidays. They want to hire people who have flexible schedules, so they will be able to have a full staff during those times. If you have some flexibility in your availability, make sure that you make that clear on your job application. That can go a long way towards helping you get an interview.

Age requirements

You must be at least 18 years old to work at Lowe's.
