The Crate and Barrel Application Process

The online Crate and Barrel application process is very simple and straightforward. In fact, it's one of the most applicant-friendly applications that we've ever seen.

Before you can apply for a job at Crate and Barrel, you will have to create an account on their hiring site. Creating an account will only take you a couple minutes, and you will need to provide some basic contact information during the process. You will need your name, address, phone number, and email address.

If you have a resume and cover letter prepared (you do, right?) you will have the opportunity to upload them. This is the best way to apply -- not only is it much faster (it's all you need), but a good resume and cover letter will help you stand out in ways that just aren't possible on a standardized application.

If you don't have a resume and don't want to create one, you can choose to enter all of your information manually on the online application. You will need to provide your current job type, desired job type, desired salary, relocation preferences, salary requirements, work experience, education history, and shift preferences.

During the application, you will also be asked one very important question: "Why would you like to work for Crate and Barrel?" Take your time while answering this question. Do some research. Does the company promote any values that you share? This is your opportunity to demonstrate why you would be a perfect fit for the company, so take your time and craft a great answer.

At this point, you will have an opportunity to review your application. Take time to read over your application very carefully, and make any necessary edits before you submit it.

How long will Crate and Barrel keep my application on file?

Crate and Barrel keeps all applications on file for one year. If a year has come and gone, you will need to fill out another application to remain in their candidate pool.

How to Get Updates on Your Crate and Barrel Application

Crate and Barrel does not provide automatic application updates. And though they discourage you from calling to check on the status of your application, it's never a bad idea to follow-up at least once (but wait at least a couple weeks after you apply -- you don't want to be a pest).

History

The first Crate and Barrel store was opened by Carole and Gordon Segal in 1962. Their inspiration for the store was a trip to Europe, where they discovered that there were many stores that sold quality products at reasonable prices. They wanted to duplicate that experience in the United States, so they made agreements with small European companies and imported their goods.

The store was successful, and they opened their second store in 1968. In 1985 there were 17 stores, and by 2002 there were over 100. Today, there are more than 170 Crate and Barrel locations in the United States.
