The American Express Application Process

For this application guide, we applied for a position as a Quality Assurance Manager. The application process is nearly identical for all positions, but you mind find that yours varies a little bit depending on the position that you are applying for.

Before you can apply for a job at American Express, you will need to register on their site. To create your account, you will provide some basic personal information including your email address, account password, name, phone number, current employer, current job title, and level of interest.

With your account created, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume. Uploading your resume is optional at this point, but it will help you complete the application more quickly. American Express will read through your application and use the information it finds to fill out many of the application fields for us. If you choose to upload your resume, make sure that you take the time to review all of the information that it entered on your behalf. While it didn't make any mistakes with our resume, it's possible that it could make some on yours. If you don't want to upload your resume at this point, that's ok -- you can enter all of your information manually.

Over the course of the application, you will be asked to provide many different pieces of personal information including your name, home address, phone number, email address, work experience, education, and any relevant certifications that you may hold. By taking the time to prepare all of this information beforehand (including accurate employment and education dates), you will be able to get through the application much more quickly.

After you provide your personal information, you will have the opportunity to upload your resume and cover letter. While neither is technically required by their hiring system (meaning you don't have to provide them if you don't want to), we highly recommend that you provide them. Also, make sure that you take a little time to customize them for the position that you're applying for. Not only will a customized cover letter and resume help you demonstrate real interest in the position, it will also help you explain exactly how your previous experiences have prepared you for the job that you are applying for.

Background check and drug test

During the course of the American Express application, you will need to consent to a pre-employment background check and drug test. Any employment offer that you receive will be contingent upon passing these tests.

How to Get Updates on Your American Express Application

Unfortunately, American Express does not provide automatic application updates at this time. If you have already applied for a position and would like to know where you stand, you will need to try and contact their human resources department or the hiring manager.
