The Chevron Application Process

For this application guide, we applied for a web developer position. Though the application process is very similar for all jobs, it's possible that your experience may vary a little bit depending on the position that you're applying for.

From start to finish, the Chevron application should take you about 20 minutes to complete (assuming that you have already taken the time to create your resume and cover letter).

Before you can begin the application, you will need to create an account on the Chevron hiring website. To register, you will need to provide your email address, an account password, and answers to four security questions.

Once your account is setup, you will need to provide Chevron with some basic personal information including your name, address, email address, phone number, education, languages spoken and written, and work location preferences. All of this information is requested on the same page, and to be perfectly honest, the page is a little bit overwhelming and hard to read at first glance. Just take it slow, and make sure that you read each question carefully. If you rush through this section, you are almost guaranteed to make a few mistakes.

After you provide all of your personal information, you will have the opportunity to provide your resume and cover letter. The cover letter is not technically required by the system (you can still proceed without it), but we would recommend that you treat it as if it is a requirement. A good cover letter will go a long way towards helping you get an interview, as it is your chance to communicate exactly why you are interested in the job and why you would make an ideal candidate. For both your resume and cover letter, make sure that you take some time to customize them for the position that you are applying for. This is your opportunity to demonstrate genuine interest and outline how your previous experiences have prepared you for the job that you're applying for.

On the same page, you will be able to upload digital copies of any relevant transcripts or certifications that you may have. These are not required, and would not be applicable for most positions. However, if you feel that your chances of getting an interview would be increased by providing relevant documentation, then by all means provide it.

Background check and drug test

During the application, you will need to consent to a pre-employment background check and drug test. Any employment offer that you receive will be contingent upon passing both of these tests.

How to Get Updates on Your Chevron Application

When you apply for a Chevron job through your StartWire account, we will provide you with automatic application updates. These updates will let you know when your application has been read and if you are still being considered for the position that you are applying for.
