How to Apply For a Job at Walmart

StartWire

Kiosks
All Walmart stores are equipped with computer kiosks that you can use to fill out your employment application. Using these kiosks is a great option if you don’t have a reliable internet connection, or you need to share your connection with others (the application process can take quite a long time). Plus, by going into the store, you might have the chance to introduce yourself to a decision-maker, and that opportunity can help you make a positive personal connection.

Have Your Resume Ready

If you’re applying for a management position or a position with the corporate arm of the company, you will want to make sure that you have a resume prepared when you start going through the online application process.

The Walmart Job Application Process

The application itself is pretty straightforward. If you've ever applied to a job before, then you should have a good idea of what to expect. The majority of the questions are all about you: your name, address, phone number, etc. If you're like most people, you'll spend most of your time filling out your employment history. To make things easier on yourself, you put together a list of your employment history before you start the process.
The assessment
In addition to the standard job application questions (employment history, personal information, etc), Walmart also requires applicants to take an assessment designed to help them better understand your values and who you are as a person. Many of the questions are focused on the decisions you would make on the job (do you go to your supervisor or make your own rules? Do you work hard, or will you slack off when someone isn’t breathing down your neck?). Though the assessment can be long, it’s important to remain focused throughout the process. When it comes to getting an interview, it’s very important — if you don’t score well, you’ll be instantly disqualified from the interview process.
Assessment tips
The assessment portion of the application process is primarily comprised of behavioral questions. Most of the questions are statements, for example, ‘I would tell my boss if I saw someone stealing.’ Then answers range from ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree.’ As a bit of a tip, it’s generally better to agree or disagree strongly than it is to be stuck in the middle. Remember, the company is looking for people that they can trust. If you’re only ‘somewhat likely’ to report theft (or another similar incident), then you probably aren’t the person that they’d prefer to hire for the job.

How To Get Updates on Your Walmart Job Application

With a company the size of Walmart, there is no possible way for them to provide job application updates to each individual applicant. However, if you apply to a Walmart job through StartWire, we can and will provide you with updates on your application. Types of people Walmart wants to hire

Business Summary

Leadership
Mike Duke is the current CEO of Walmart, and S. Robson Walton (son of founder Sam Walton) is the Chairman.
Finances
In 2012, Walmart reported $446 billion in revenue, with an operating income of $26.5 billion and a net income of $15.56 billion.
History
Before he founded Walmart, Sam Walton was already a successful retailer. He had great success running a JCPenney store, and later opened a Ben Franklin franchise where he realized that he could attract more business by setting slightly lower prices than his competition. In 1962, Walton took what he had learned and opened the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas. The store became successfully very quickly, and within five years it expanded to 24 locations and earned over $12 million in revenue. Today, Walmart is the third largest private employer in the world, and their commitment to providing their customers with the lowest prices possible has continued to drive their business. In 2012 they earned nearly $450 billion in revenue, and are arguably the most powerful corporation in the United States. Walmart is now the largest grocery retailer in the United States, and also owns and operates Sam’s Club, a membership shopping chain.
